Hidden column on grid hides field in edit form
When the user hides a column in the grid and then edits the row with the popup edit form the hidden column does not show up in the edit form. It would be nice to allow the user to hide grid columns but still be able to edit the field that is hidden.

Hi, Daniel,

Thank you for sharing the exact use case. Indeed, the opposite is also valid - seeing fields in the edit form that are not visible in the grid. Given that the grid encapsulates its logic for the visible columns, it is recommended to make use of the form template to include all fields that are needed.

It would be more difficult to track which are visible columns at any given time and render only their respective editors than using a form template with explicitly defined editors.

The Popup template would work if I am using that style form. I was just surprised when users started having issues with editing to find out they were hiding columns not realizing that they would be removed from the automatic popup generated form. I will have to use the template then.

Thanks

Hi Daniel,

By design, the Grid allows editing of the visible columns and this applies to all edit modes. Popup editing is the only edit mode where it is technically possible to render other fields in the form apart from the visible ones. You can currently achieve that through the Popup Form Template.

Changing the built-in behavior will introduce differences between the various edit modes. I am not saying that this is not possible, however, we want to gather feedback on the use case. Can you please share details on the scenario in which the user needs to edit a field that they are not using or even viewing afterwards?

This will help us evaluate your request. Thank you in advance!
