Grid: Memory Leak through detached DOM elements

In our application we use some large datasets and present them in a TelerikGrid. We use WPF + Blazor Hybrid and noticed, that in some cases the memory usage of the Web View process grows up to some gigabytes.

Here a screenshot of the task manager with a lot of RAM usage for the web view.

Here a screenshot of the detached DOM elements after a two navigations. The container divs are not garbage collected.

I tracked down the issue to come from the TelerikGrid, because when I remove it from the pages, everything runs fine. I also removed all GridColumns and the issue is still present. In the developer tools I noticed that one of the parent div elements remains in memory every time I navigate back and forth.

I also created a blank Blazor WebAssembly Standalone application and added a simple instance of the grid. Here, the issue is also present. I attach the one blazor page that causes the issue.

I've tested all major versions from 5.1 upwards, every version is affected.

Hi Christian,

I realize how disruptive such issues can be and I apologize for the trouble.

Last time we talked this bug was in the top 15 list in our backlog. Thanks to a few recent fixes and customer votes, it has now reached top 10. We normally don't schedule fixes in advance, so I can't be specific about the timeline. However, the current state of affairs makes me believe we can start working on this item in 2026.

With regard to a possible mitigation - I assume that periodic app restarting is far from ideal. If we find another workaround, we will post it here.

Dimo

Hi Dimo,
thanks for the update.
Unfortunately, this issue is severely impacting production operations on our side. We are experiencing real OOM errors in customer environments, caused by growing detached DOM elements when the TelerikGrid is refreshed or navigated frequently (SignalR-heavy usage).
Could you please provide at least a rough timeline for when this issue might be addressed, or advise on any temporary mitigation to reduce the memory impact?
Best regards,
Christian

Hello Christian,

I am afraid we have no news at this point. The issue is among the top 15 in our Bugs Backlog in terms of priority, but there are still some others that surpass it. That's why we haven't got to it yet. Sorry about that.

Dimo

Hi,

are there any news on this? As this is also very crucial for us, as our customers experience out-of-memory exceptions after some time (we are doing a lot of refreshing due to SignalR)

In the meantime, are there any suggestions for the TelerikGrid of how to lower the impact on the memory?

Thank You And Best Regards,

Christian
