Multiselect options read as blank by AT [WCAG 1.3.1 level A]

First visit of options in drop down, using keyboard:

  • each option is read as 'blank' in screen reader
  • number of options not read out

Hi Stephen,

Thank you for providing us the additional details. This always helps the process of investigating the case.

I tested the scenario with the provided setup in different browsers. With our latest release, 2.27.0, these issues are fixed in both Chrome and Firefox. This is why I'm changing the status of this public item to "Complete".

I can fill in the details on Matt's behalf. Sorry for the delay.

test setup

  • win10
  • Chrome browser (original issue was raised against this browser) and Firefox
  • NVDA

 

summary

chrome and firefox are having opposite issues.

Chrome issues impact screen reader users.

Firefox issue impact keyboard users with vision.

 

Chrome experience

  • BAD - each option is read as 'blank' in screen reader (when using keyboard)
  • BAD - number of options NOT read out on focus of first item in list
  • GOOD - visual focus is given to each item in the list (when using keyboard)

 

Firefox experience

  • GOOD - each option is read out correctly in screen reader (when using keyboard)
  • GOOD - number of options is read out on focus of first item in list
  • BAD - visual focus is NOT given to each item in the list (when using keyboard)

Hi Matt,

To investigate this problem on my machine, can you classify the screen reader you are using? Is it the default on Mac or any other screen reader?

This would help me to reproduce the behavior and see where the problem comes from.
