Dropdown TextField behavior should be the same for null and empty string

Currently, a TextField value of empty string will produce a blank item in the dropdown.

On the other hand, a null TextField value will produce the fully qualified class name.

This is bizarre behavior and I just lost almost an hour thinking that I was binding to my data source incorrectly.  I consider this a bug.
