Add the PersistContent parameter
When I move from step A to step B the content of step A is removed from the DOM which means that the next time I go back to step A the user has to input everything anew.

To me this component is useless without the possibility to persist the content of each step. Please add persistence like the TabStrip component. Unfortunately, this also applies to other components (such as Panel).
