I am not the original poster, but what you describe would be a nice way to do it, yes.
If you give us the ability to set CSS classes for each task and dependency individually, then we can style things for any number of ways we want to show. Critical Path being one of them.

I’ve reviewed what a critical path looks like in the Gantt. Would it meet your needs if we provided the ability to assign a CSS class to each task and dependency? This would allow you to style and customize them as needed—for example, applying a red color to represent the critical path, which appears to be the core functionality you’re seeking.
