Document roadmap for kendo.mobile.ui and new best practices for mobile development

On one hand, kendo.mobile widgets have not progressed in several years.

On the other hand, some "mobile" controls like Bottom Navigation and Floating Action have entered the realm of kendo.ui, and an Action Sheet is in the roadmap.

Some of us still develop/maintain hybrid apps. It has become necessary to (i) clarify the roadmap and (ii) get some new best practices (doc and samples) for developing hybrid apps with Kendo UI:

  1. should we discard all kendo.mobile.ui widgets and replace them with their equivalent kendo.ui widget?
  2. how to replace certain widgets like kendo.mobile.ui.scroller which have no equivalent for kinetic scrolling.

Hello Jack,

I am changing the status of the request to 'Unplanned'. We will track the community interest and the votes the request collects. Based on those factors we might consider adding such a blog post or an article to our documentation.

This is very confusing because we have two ActionSheet widgets, two BottomNavigation widgets, etc. Which one to use and when? Will they replace the ui.mobile equivalents in the future? Worth at least a blog post.

Your colleague replied assuming I was tallking about kidoju.mobile but this is a typo. I meant kendo.ui.mobile widgets.

Hello Jack,

As far as I see my colleague Ivan has already replied to the other thread on the same topic. For convenience, I will paste his reply here as well:

With regard to a Hybrid UI roadmap, Hybrid UI is part of Kendo UI so it doesn't have a separate roadmap. Here's a link to the Kendo UI's roadmap: https://www.telerik.com/support/whats-new/kendo-ui/roadmap

In the near future we will be focusing on expanding Kendo UI's mobile capabilities, which is why we have the ActionSheet in our roadmap. We don't have immediate plans to add new Hybrid UI components.

If you have a question on the configuration, the API methods and events of the Scroller, or any other Hybrid UI component, that are not covered by the documentation, the API, and the examples shown there, feel free to submit a support ticket.

Whether to use the Kendo UI for jQuery standard components or the Kendo Hybrid components depends on the project requirements. However, I am afraid that the Scroller widget is available only as a Hybrid component. If it is suitable for your scenario, you could use the jQuery scroll method.

Maybe this could be addressed in a series of blog posts.
