With the basic functionality of applying the filter to a drop down list or combox box being equal to a multi select I cannot see why this would be unplanned. Now developers need to implement their own code for a basic routine, which Telerik already implemented before. I don't see this to be a big change nor a time consuming task to do, but I do see a lot of benefits for multi selects being used with a parent key.
