Make the datetimepicker default to current time when the user selects current date.
I want the datetimepicker to pull from the database if a value exists, show nothing if it doesn't, and get the current date and time when user clicks on the calendar icon.   It doesn't get the current time.  It shows midnight.  I can get the datetimepicker to default to today's date (on display) and current time if I don’t try and pull a value from the database.

i want to display datetime picker for specific coulums but the datetime picker do not appear like this example but i need a time https://demos.telerik.com/kendo-ui/spreadsheet/validation

I tried your example and it worked.  I tried updating the grid with the datetimepicker and it did not work.  I can send a zip file if you like.

Thanks for the explanation and your proposal, Idavis.

Note that you can achieve the behavior you are after (setting current time when the user selected today's date from the picker) intercepting the change and open events as illustrated in this dojo sample:
