Enhance the Map widget to support a Legend.
In the applications I work on we have multiple maps where there are shapes with different colors, tooltips with data, and various map markers. 

The Map widget would be greatly enhanced if it could support a legend!

I would love to see the map support a legend with a distance scale that updated on zoom level

I was able to create a "legend" by floating a window on the top of the map's edge with the legend  key! Not too bad but still a little disconnected from the map.

It would be nice if there was just another Layer for the map for the legend and it was embedded in the map like the markers.

Thanks for the proposition, Justine.

Would you be able to provide a visual mockup which illustrates how you could benefit from a legend attached to the map widget? Also if you can give a reference to a third party map solution which makes use of it, that'll be helpful as well to evaluate your request in more detail.
