Customize KendoGrid buttons icons (es. using Font Awesome)
It would be really nices to have the possibility to customize the kendogrid buttons icons (for example using Font Awesome) 

For example the Save changes and Edit changes button's customization is not supported

No it's not applicable in my case since I want to replace the default standard edit/cancel button witouth having to reproduce the behavior of those commands

This is possible for custom command buttons in the grid as illustrated in this documentation article:
http://docs.telerik.com/kendo-ui/web/grid/how-to/Layout/font-awesome-icons-in-custom-grid-command-buttons

This approach should be applicable in your scenario as well.
