Support select elements with optgroups in kendoDropDown
Currently it seems that kendoDropDown only supports select elements with options and not optgroups. Would like to see this widget support select elements with both optgroup and option elements.

When adding from an existing select element an existing optgroup does not convert into the kendo equivilent

I even tried ng-repeat for optgroup then convert to kendo-combo-box but no luck. How many votes are needed so i can ask my friends?

I am converting a widget containing a drop down list containing option groups, and we hoped to use kendo, but were surprised to find that there is no support for optgroups. This would seem like an obvious improvement to consider as a priority. It appears that there are many others who are surprised that it is not provided.

Very much needed feature, its a requirement for one of our projects and is making us consider switching away from Kendo for all dropdowns.

Chosen and Select2 both support groups. Why doesn't Kendo??? 

Currently we use Kendo for all the dropdowns in our app, except the ones which require groups, for which we have to use Chosen, which is annoying because the styling of Chosen dropdowns is completely different.

Please add to kendoMultSelect as well, most other competitive tools now support this.

This would be a great addition. Not having this feature would force me to replace the Kendo UI Dropdownlist with a regular Select in order to meet project requirements. Please consider adding this feature in future releases.

Please modernize the code to allow optgroup for dropdown select lists.. Virtually all versions of jquery, jquery ui, javascript now support this feature..

Please add option groups.  This seems like a wildly popular feature, and I've seen various threads requesting this scattered over the web throughout the last year or so, can't believe it still isn't available.
