We do understand that the provided solution is different than the one requested, and acknowledge that.
We do, however, believe that the UI pattern we suggest works better for a number of scenarios, the most notable one being the mobile devices. The traditional dropdown drawer is relatively small for complex UI, and, by default, closes when clicked or scrolled. None of these disadvantages are present with the suggested dialog approach.
If you are facing a specific scenario, which is not compatiblewith the provided solution, I may suggest that you suggest a new idea in the portal - we will re-iterate over the case, and if a lot of people still consider it the combobox implementation necessary, will include it in one of our next iterations. Thank you!

This should not be marked as completed. It is an unacceptable workaround that does not give the functionality of the suggestion.

I'm sorry that Telrik chosses to ignore it's clients this way.
What is requested here is not unreasonable.
You can simply say you won't do it.
A tree view is not a dropdown with checkboxes.

Picking multiple items from a dialog is implemented as a demo for the dialog widget - http://demos.telerik.com/kendo-ui/dialog/treeview-integration

Is telerik ever going to add multi select with checkbox request into kendo library? Its been 3 years now. The multi select currently provided in Kendo library cannot be used for any practice purpose. Also the suggested solution which was developed by community also has few bugs.

For everyone that used the solution from the forum thread and had issues when updating:
it is possible to customize the MultiSelect control in order to mimic the features from the DropdownList with checkboxes.
The following links provide information on this:
It is possible to set the tagMode to single and further customize the template that display information when the selection list is collapsed.

ComboBox with CheckBoxes -> Can some one in kendo team update this to the latest kendo version 2016.1.112. Because of the update its not working. Below is the URL

a Kendo plugin that uses the drop down UI (and associated stylinhttp://kendoui-feedback.telerik.com/signing), does multi select using checkboxes, and is bindable against a Kendo MVVM view model. A multiselect drop-down is a huge gap in the Kendo Web toolkit, so I figured it might be useful to others as well.
similar to this link which you have shared with earier
Fiddle is here: http://jsfiddle.net/bDvkQ/

Due to this its preventing me to update the newer version.. and couldn't avail the new features

This is very much needed widget. The alternative solution proposed doesnt work with latest kendo version. I am using kendo version 2015.2.902.
It works only with 2014.3.1411, that latest version breaks this solution as there were fixes on dropdownlist.
I would appreciate if you guys can get this plugin fixed or a new widget with checkbox option.

I would like to have this also!

A "select all" and "select none" switch is helpfull with many items in the list.
I updated the jsfiddle sample to use the latest available Kendo UI scripts and it seems to work as expected:
Note that the combobox empty label showing [object] when no value is selected is a known issue which should have been addressed in a recent internal build.

Hi Admin. Unfortunately, I don't think the solutions in that other thread work with the latest version of Kendo. I had to apply a few major hacks to get it working. It's not pretty.

We really need this since we have "RadComboBox" with checkboxes in our ASP.net applications. We need similar ComboBox to move to MVC.

Checkboxes are must have

Support 100%, We are developing a business application and this control is pivotal for most of the search screens. The existing multi select is not ideal in our scenarios b'cos of the variable size. Love to see this in near future

very much needed for mulit select option in dropdown/combo in mvc
Posted on:09 Mar 2014 01:08
Multiselect widget must be more interactive. Select all/deselect all button, multi selectable at one time with checkboxes...
Posted on:20 Feb 2014 06:17
Very important control, that I'm looking forward to. Multi select os ok but not that useful.
Posted on:25 Jan 2014 04:35
Checkboxes please!!! Also an alternate display where the box would just show the count that way the UI is not affected by the growing box.
Posted on:21 Oct 2013 22:31
The current MultiSelect only allows you to select one value at a time when clicking the dropdown. I would like to see either checkboxes or use the ctrl button to select multiple at once.
Posted on:26 Jun 2013 15:30
Kendo has multi select but it does not have check boxes to check instead of select and at top instead of tabs for all selected values it should have comma separated text of selected values.
if these two changes get in co operated in kendo multi select dropdown that will be a great.

I need in my aaplication.

Nice Work It helps me alot.

In one of hour application we are using multi-select drop-down very extensively. We have customized the drop-down and added template with check-box inside the drop-down using java script. There should be feature like select all and show the selected items on drop-down. It would be great if you create such tool on Kendo UI Web.
Posted on:17 Apr 2013 19:39
Perhaps it would be easiest to modify the existing multi select widget to include the option to be used with check boxes instead of the tag based option. I agree that it's just not very useful as is. The checkbox option would be used everyday in my apps!

Whilst I appreciate the recent implementation of the multi-select control, it is not really a practical choice when dealing with a lot of options. Having a combobox type control with checkboxes like the ASP .NET version is far better for dealing with larger amounts of data, and is similar to the experience users have with products like Excel. So enhancing the Combobox to provide/use checkboxes for multiple selection would be excellent :-)
