Grid Excel Google like Filtering
This would be great. It is kind of what I had in mind when I suggested this: http://kendo.uservoice.com/forums/127393-kendo-ui-feedback/suggestions/2662536-add-grid-column-filters. I currently use this type of filter where the filter is just a free text field and upon blur or enter, it runs the filter. having control over the type of filter syntax used would be great ... so that it is Linq, List, Oql, or custom string compatible. This is a common feature in the Telerik Grid when used in client mode...

Thanks for the feedback, I'll pass it to the team to contemplate this option for google-style filtering configuration.

Will this feature be supported also for "Grid / Virtualization of remote data" (ODATA) with some kind of API for defining server side calls to support the filter as you type functionality?

This is a great idea - column specific, search as you type criteria!

The feature will be exactly as you expect, i.e. a row of filters under the grid column headers.

I don't think the current description, "Speaking of the grid, we'll also be adding a "Google-style" AutoComplete to the Grid filtering mechanism. This will allow a selection of current filterable values instead of a free text field." Aligns with the full intent of this ask.

The goal is to achieve a row of filters under the column headers that allow filtering to occur without having to dig into menus, just like the telerik control in the comment immediately preceding this one.

If we are still digging into a menu to perform a filter from a limited subset, then I don't believe were achieving the intended value.

Is there a work around to add this in?

when will this be implemented? We might have to switch to DevExpress if this is not available soon.

I think that we should have flexibility like those in asp.net

This is a must-have feature. Every one would appreciate this. DataTables.net have this, so Kendo should add it to!!

I really want to see this to, as well has having the option for the menu as well as the input control that allows the user to specify contains etc... like is seen here:
http://demos.telerik.com/aspnet-ajax/grid/examples/generalfeatures/filtering/defaultcs.aspx
I think this is important, as with the current filter in the KendoUI Grid, it shows a different icon when the filter is applied, but you can't at a glance see what value is applied to the filter. With the filter input controls at the top of the grid under the headers like the ASP.NET AJAX Grid, the user can see at a glance what value is applied to the filter. This means the control is more streamlined for the end user to work with. As they don't have to expand all the filter menus to see what the filter values are.
