Harry, you can see a preview of this feature in our public Q3 Beta here:
http://demos.telerik.com/kendo-ui/Beta/grid/multicolumnheaders

Q3 RTM is slated in about 3 weeks.

Please add this feature! I'm waiting to see it before I purchase Kendo UI. This is the only thing preventing me from switching from Infragistics igGrid to Kendo.

Hi -- I'm happy to see this has been put "under review". Can you provide any update on the planning for this feature?

it is big disappointment, i am not able to use kendo UI just because of this.

This would be a huge feature. So many UI frameworks fall short of this feature.

This feature needs to be collapsible so that you can expand grouped columns to view the individual columns as well as collapse if not required. Grouping for it own sake is rather limiting. Collapsing makes it truly a useful feature.

Grouped rows also would be great!

The groups should also collapse/expand

it is a must have for us as well, otherwise we will be moving away from kendo grid and look for another supplier

yes, it's imperative now. Even infragistics got them last year... Please plan it asap.

Killer feature.... This is a must have, a statement from KEndo would be more than welcome, as this could become a showstopper for us

It would be usefull to have, because our customer wanted a grid with grouped columns.

I'm still evaluating Kendo-UI vs extJS. Neck and neck until I found this feature missing. It may seem trivial but I will use it quite a bit in my app.

I vote for this functionality! Desperately needed - for rows as well.

This functionality is seemingly of low importance, but it really can be critical in a number of applications. Please see Sencha's 'Grouped Header Grid' as an example: http://docs.sencha.com/extjs/4.2.1/extjs-build/examples/build/KitchenSink/ext-theme-neptune/#grouped-header-grid

Hey guys,

In case any of you want to implement this yourselves, it is very easy. I wrote a simple post about it. I had the requirement to add the headers using Kendo. I simply modified the DOM after loading the grid.

http://brianseekford.com/index.php/2013/05/14/how-to-add-complex-headers-to-a-kendo-grid-using-simple-jquery-javascript/

Happy Coding!

Rediculous you the grid doesn't have this.
TJ
Posted on: 08 May 2013 14:46
Seems like a fundamental feature for a grid. The "work around" using a header template is "ok" but it looks like we'll have to hook up some javascript magic if you want to be able to sort/filter/group on the "col1" "col2" headers.

I vote for it. It is a very useful feature to group related columns together.

Go Here:
http://trirand.com/blog/jqgrid/jqgrid.html

Click on: "Frozen Cols Group Header", in the left nav, then one of the Group Head sub items in the nav.

This is what I'm going to have to use if you guys don't implement this... Then I would have to learn two grids... and support two grids... as the project I am going to build has this requirement.

I really hope this makes it into the next release...

I too would love this functionality. Multi-row headers are fairly important to us at the moment.

A workaround could be (Razor):
[col1].HeaderHtmlAttributes(new { colspan = 2 }).HeaderTemplate(@<text><table><tr><td colspan="2" >category 1</td></tr><tr><td>col 1</td><td>col 2</td></tr></table></text>);
//Expanding first column to occupy also the second one and providing a template with embedded table.

[col2].HeaderHtmlAttributes(new { style = "display:none;" }); //Hiding second column

Here's the duplicate: http://feedback.kendoui.com/forums/127393-kendo-ui-feedback/suggestions/2813444-grid-column-groups-two-level-titles-

UV doesn't provide the ability to transfer votes (that I'm aware of), but you can remove your votes from this item and apply them to that one.
Jose
Posted on: 24 Oct 2012 22:42
Please add this - it should not be a vote...this should be a common functionality just like most other grids.
