Buttons and toolbars (with icons and kendo themes) are much easier to use with Touch devices than the Menu widget
Button widget is delivered with our Q3'13 release, toolbar is planned for Q2 2014.
Thanks the pressure at the moment is to build things that look like Microsoft's products like SharePoint and CRM if you are in an MS shop (business wide) the expectation is to deliver that look and quality. My director for example I believe would like it to be indiscernible in terms of its look and feel sometimes less functionality and simpler applications can be better. The defects issue of course will still be there
I'm surprised that such a basic widget/control it's not included in the Kendo UI framework, nor does it exist as a community plug-in as of this moment. Maybe it's not required for a website, but any serious business application needs Toolbars. What's more worry some it's that this feature is not even on the near future roadmap http://www.kendoui.com/forums/permalink/C2cvrR0dAUubvm-rc_8cFw
Toolbars are basically a must have these days in modern web applications. Quicker and easier to navigate than drop down menus revealing UI can be used and they work better across Tablets, Phones and Laptops in my opinion. With SVG or Canvas can be drawn and resized (the icon) to fit. So this means graphics are not required which adds length of life to the app and likely means it can handle weird in between or bigger screen sizes better. Google uses these type of icons in various places. And your competition in the HTML5 space has these widgets.
Also need this for the kendo web suite as in order to get buttons in tabviews + windows working correctly on ipad my only option is to use kendo menu control
See your point. Buttons and toolbars will surely be included in the Kendo UI Mobile suite, coming as Beta this November. We will take them into account for the Kendo UI Framework widgets, too.
