PivotGrid: Allow partial collapsing of headers

The caption sounds ocnfusing, but i couldn't come up with a better one:

Problem is, if you have hirarchical data like Date.Calendar, you have "sub" values that can be collapsed and expanded

Problem is, when you have more headers, that sit below therese hirarchies, they will be collapsed too.
In this example, "Category" sits below there.

See how the Category is not visible, because Icollapsed the whole year 2010.
Compare that to 2011 where all categories are visible, because its fully expanded.

The feature I am requesting here is to still be able to show columns for each category and aggregated values, even though the year is collapsed.
I know this would be acchieved by moving category on top of the headers, but this also changes orders of the columns.

Our old windows forms pivot grid had this kind of functionality.

MSPaint to the rescue, this is how I imagine it (ignore the numbers, they do not make sense)

Hello Christian,

This is not included in the planning for the current release and I can't give any specific promises, but I will forward this to the development team for further review. In the meantime, you can follow the feedback item in order to get notified when its status changes.

@Martin Ivanov we consider this a bug, is there a chance of fixing this any time soon?

Hello Christian,

Thank you for the additional information. We've reviewed the described behavior and based on it approved the feature request (set its status to Unplanned).

Hello Martin,

let me rephrase this requirement, maybe its more clear:

Right now, lets say you can collapse/expand like this:

Year => Quarter => Month => Gender

The only way, the control displays data based on gender is, if you fully expand its hierarchy.
There is no way you can show the "yearly" gender values, you allways have to break down to month level before you can see gender values.

So it would be nice, if you could collapse Year (so Quarter, Month is hidden) but still expand gender. So you see the total values of the whole year for male and female.

Thats what i tried to express in the screenshot i edited with paint.
RadarSofts Pivot Control can do this (im not sutre the screenshot will help you though).

This is a cube based on our testdata, you can see that "GJ 2008" (business year 2008) is collapsed, but its sub categories are expanded and show their yearly values.
GJ 2007 is expanded to semesters, but sub categories are collapsed.

Hello Christian,

Note that currently, the default hierarchical visualization is based on the selected row and column descriptors and it is not directly related to the hierarchical data structure like in the Date field's case. If I understand you correct, you need to provide an alternative collapsing mode where only the hierarchical (in the original source) data is collapsible? Please correct me if I am wrong.

Also, can you share several more examples of the expected result, in pictures or similar tools, like the pivot in winforms you mentioned?
