Cannot customize the Conversational UI's input area

Hi,

We use the Conversational UI but need to customize the input area. The changes that we need are not merely cosmetic: for example, we want to replace the existing input with a textarea so that our users can have meaningful conversations and not limit themselves to one-liners.

We saw that you already support templates for messages and attachments: can we have input template support as well?

We still haven't added the feature to our development plans.

I'd also like to add that the Kendo UI for React feedback portal is located at the following link:

Any Update here?

 

I started down the road of extending the ChatMessageBoxProps, and writing my own "messageBox" component, but this seems to be more complicated than it should be. If we could just pass in a component as the inputType or something, that would solve my use case. (I am using kendo react)

Thank you for voting and commenting.

We track the demand for all Kendo UI for Angular feature requests and prioritize our development plans accordingly. At the moment, the requested functionality is not added to our RoadMap for implementation. Indeed, there isn't a simple workaround available. Probably the soonest this enhancement can be released is by the end of the third quarter of this year. However, the time for the release isn't fixed as there are multiple various factors such as work load, availability of resources, priority, severity etc that influence the development process.

Upvoting.  Our product management would like to make the input field multi-line as well so our agents can see several sentences of that they are typing.  Vertical scrolling if necessary rather than scrolling horizontally.  The priority is so high, we will need to hack around this or switch to a different chat UI component.

Indeed, such functionality would prove useful for the Conversational UI Component. This is why, I converted this ticket to be a public feature request item, so that other users can vote for it:

This will allow us to track the demand for the feature and eventually provide it in a future release of Kendo UI for Angular. Thank you for the feedback.
