after entering an URL and pressing ENTER, the URL is not converted into a link

Indeed, currently pasting URLs in the Editor and converting them to links automatically is not a supported feature. The available approach is to select the text that needs to be a link, and create the link via the built-in Insert Link tool:
However, it looks like a nice enhancement to have. That is why I converted the ticket to a Feature request in our Feedback portal and added a vote on your behalf:
We monitor all feature requests and reevaluate them periodically. The ones that are most popular or seem likely to bring the most value to our product are included in our roadmap based on the interest and perceived business value.
