Screen readers not reading select option drop down in the menu
Discovered that the screen reader is not announcing the select list options. The previous ticket made these keyboard accessible and selectable.  Right now, the use of a screen reader only announces:

With JAWS
Paragraph Style button menu
Font Name button menu
Real Font button menu
Zoom button menu

With NVDA
Paragraph Style sub menu
Font Name sub menu
Real Font sub menu
Zoom sub menu

Using Alt+down arrow to expand the select option menu, using the arrow keys to navigate down the menu nothing is announced although you can visually see the focus highlight in the menu.

This is the same for the two screen readers JAWS and NVDA. Same result when testing on Edge and Chrome browsers.

Other menu options or expandable sections are having a similar issue for:

Paste Options
Foreground Color
Background Color
Paint Stripper
Insert Symbol
Insert Table
Module Manager this one is empty when it expands

Thank you.

Hi GSI - Technical Support,

Thank you for the detailed report and for listing the affected tools and test setup.

We reproduced the issue and confirmed that, while keyboard navigation was functional, several RadEditor dropdowns were not consistently updating accessibility state during keyboard-only navigation. As a result, JAWS/NVDA announced only the opened menu name (e.g., “Paragraph Style”, “Font Name”, etc.) but not the currently navigated option.

We have now implemented a broader fix set that includes:

  • The previous improvement for keyboard selection in toolbar dropdowns (FontName, FontSize, RealFontSize).
  • Correct ARIA state updates during arrow-key navigation (including active option/selection updates) for list and grid-style dropdowns.
  • Stabilized keyboard behavior for more complex tools such as Insert Symbol and Insert Table.
  • Improved visual selected-item feedback for keyboard navigation across additional skins/themes.

This addresses the scenarios you reported for:

  • Paragraph Style, Font Name, Real Font, Zoom
  • Paste Options
  • Foreground Color / Background Color
  • Paint Stripper
  • Insert Symbol
  • Insert Table

For Module Manager, if the expanded section appears empty, that is typically content/configuration dependent (rather than keyboard navigation). We can review that separately if needed. Please share your editor configuration in a new ticket to look at this case.

Please test with the upcoming build that we will release this month or in the beginning of April and let us know if you still observe any missing announcements in JAWS/NVDA (Edge/Chrome).
Thank you again for the excellent reproduction details, they helped us close multiple related accessibility gaps. As a  small token of gratitude I have updated your Telerik points.

Regards,
Rumen
