Support for Paging and Repeating Headers/Footers in Telerik RadEditor

We were looking to use Telerik’s RadEditor control to provide MS Word like editing provision but lacks some features of MS Word especially Header & Footer options which will be repeated in every page, as the RadEditor control does not support paging. Are we doing it correctly? Is there an option where paging is supported and header and footer will come across pages? Are there any other products that support MS Word editor functionality?

Hi Jacob,

I converted your product feedback ticket to a public feature request item so that it is visible to more people who can vote and help raise its priority.

You are correct that Telerik’s RadEditor for ASP.NET AJAX is a web-based rich-text (HTML) editor and does not offer true paging or repeating headers/footers like MS Word. While it provides a familiar editing experience through features demonstrated in the MS Word-like Experience demo, it does not replicate the full functionality of a desktop word processor.

Based on your requirements, this request goes beyond a simple enhancement to RadEditor – it more closely aligns with the need for a new, document-centric rich text editor component that supports true paging, sections, and repeatable headers/footers across pages.

Limitations of RadEditor

  • No Native Paging or Sections: RadEditor operates on a continuous HTML document, without the concept of discrete pages or section breaks.
  • No Repeating Headers/Footers: It cannot define headers or footers that repeat automatically across printed or exported pages.
  • Export Support: While RadEditor can export to PDF and DOCX formats, headers and footers must be manually included in the content and will not repeat per page.

Workarounds

  • Manual Headers/Footers: You can insert header and footer sections directly in the content, but they will not repeat automatically when the document is paginated during printing or export.
  • Custom Export Logic: For more advanced document formatting, you can use the Telerik Document Processing Libraries to post-process exported files and programmatically insert repeating headers and footers. This approach requires additional development effort.

We recommend monitoring the progress of this feature request. If it gains enough community interest, it could be considered for inclusion in our future roadmap as a new rich-text editor designed for document-style editing.

Rumen
