This is not a bug, but rather an Adobe Reader-specific behavior. If you examine the unencoded PDF file contents you will notice that we do not explicitly add any quotation marks. Another way to verify this would be to open the generated PDF file in another viewer - for example Windows 8 PDF Viewer, Foxit Reader, etc...

This behavior can be reproduced on different meta information properties, not only "Author". You only need to add a comma (,) character somewhere in the text.
