Support for automatic multiselect summary tag mode (based on available UI space)

Currently the kengoMultiSelectSummaryTag only supports a number as its input, which enables switching to summary mode if the number of selected items is greater than the specified value.

It would be nice to add an option for dynamic mode which will be based on the available space for the control and will automatically switch to summary mode if there is not enough  space for displaying all the items.

See the screenshots to illustrate how it might look like.

Thanks,

Shai.

Hi Paul,

Thank you for sharing your use case. I absolutely understand the challenge—when dealing with variable-length text in MultiSelect tags, it's difficult to predict overflow behavior and maintain proper alignment.

At this time, this feature is not part of our immediate development roadmap. However, we actively monitor customer demand for all enhancement requests, and feature prioritization is directly influenced by the level of interest from our user community.

If this feature is critical for your project timeline, I'd like to make you aware of our Feature Acceleration Program. This program allows customers to sponsor the development of specific components or functionality on demand, with negotiated timelines that align with your needs.

If you're interested in exploring this option, I'd be happy to connect you with our Professional Services team. They can discuss your exact specifications, technical requirements, and possible implementation timeframes.

Please let me know if you'd like to pursue this route or if you have any other questions.

Regards,

Any update on when this will be picked up? It is quite important to the UI/UX for our customers before they could use this control.

Since these multiselects would frequently be populated with customer data, we don't know how long each of the displayed text options will be. This means that the current suggested methods of e.g. switching to summary tag mode after a certain number of items have been selected are simply not practical: we don't know how many items will be "too many". It could result in an ugly and misaligned UI where the control suddenly spans multiple lines.

We don't want to perform dynamic width/height calculations - that should be handled by the control library.

Hi Shai,

Thank you for submitting this feature request. We will track the customer demand here, and may consider introducing such an enhancement in a future version of the DropDowns package, based on the interest.
