Add support for scanning Barcodes

Having the ability to generate barcodes is great, but having the ability to scan barcodes as well would make the control even better.

Hi Greg,

Thank you for the additional context. I have also added an upvote on your behalf to the original Feature Request:

I recommend you go to that page and click the "Follow" button so that you can be notified of any status changes.

To avoid votes getting spread out among multiple features requests, which can diminish demand, I will close this thread as Declined so that we can continue to use the original feature request to gauge demand.

Note: You don't need to repost any info there as I have linked the two threads together. This allows the developers to see all the comments shared with us.

Hi Lance,

Thanks for the quick response.

I am actually already using ZXing to allow for scanning, but the issues that it has with Android (performance, etc) is becoming a problem for my users.  As well it doesn't really appear to be maintained any longer as the last code changes are from years ago.  Having a supported solution from Telerik/Progress that could also be implemented in UI for .NET MAUI or the Blazor components would be another differentiator for the various control suites.

Hope this helps,

Greg

Hello Greg,

This has been a requested ability in the past. The RadBarcode's purpose is intentionally designed to render barcodes. Adding the capability to read barcodes, adds a very significant level of complexity that would be passed onto you as the developer (i.e. permissions).

Additionally, there is already a well established, free, and easy to use barcode scanning solution for Xamarin.Forms available: ZXing (pronounced "zebra crossing").

I hope with that information, you can now quickly add scanning capability to your app.
