Test as a Step/ Run-To Here actions not Recording further test steps or capture Elements

Hi Support,

I am facing the below issue with the Product.

We were able to isolate the issue and it is reproduce able on Bing.com.

Basically, the “ Run to Here “  or “Test as a Step” functionality ,  they both pretty much do the same job.

Taking you to the previously recorded steps to continue with further recording.

Steps to Reproduce-----

Create Test#1

Go to Bing. Com and record few tests and close the browser.

Now, Right Click on the last recorded step and Select Run -To Here.

At this point, try to record and capture the Elements.

When you use either of the above mentioned functionality, the Recording and Elements capturing would stop working.

We were able to reproduce this from mine and one of my co-worker's laptop.

 This is the  same issue what I am facing with our Application (few weeks back Test studio has a release, could be related to build as it was working when i downloaded the tool initially)

Please let me know if you need any additional details from me.

Thanks,

Shubha

Hello Shubha,

Thank you for the detailed steps to reproduce the misbehavior. We were able to simulate it on Chrome and Firefox and our engineering team started to working towards resolving this bug. This is why I have converted this ticket to a public bug report item on our feedback portal and you can track the activity there.

We have recognized that the problem is not with Test As Step or the step builder, but rather with Run -> To Here and more specifically, when the page changes, after the recorder is attached. You can work around this using Run -> Selected Steps like so:
  1. start a normal recording on the initial URL (of the app under test);
  2. wait for Test Studio to start Chrome, load the URL and attach the recorder;
  3. go back to the test and select the steps you need to execute, right click on the steps and choose Run -> Selected Steps.

Keep in mind that, if you are using a test as step, you need to disable the "navigate to" step, as you already have it in the initial test.

The good news is that we believe we found the issue and should be able to release new version of the browser extension sometime next week.
