The PDFs generated in .NET Framework 4.6.2 by Standalone Designer and REST Service differ in size and the Accessibility reading order

The attached report generates different PDF documents when rendered by the Standalone Designer and REST Service, both targeting the .NET Framework 4.6.2:

  • The PDFs have different sizes
  • When using the 'Read out loud' functionality of the Adobe Reader, the items are read in a different order. The order in the PDF generated by the designer is correct, and the one in the service-generated PDF is wrong.

Hello Pramod,

We investigated the reported issues, and here are our conclusions:

The PDFs have different sizes

We ensured there is no file size difference between exported PDFs from SRD and the REST Service with enabled Accessibility. The confusion most probably comes from the fact that Accessibility is not enabled when exporting from the designer.

When using the 'Read out loud' functionality of the Adobe Reader, the items are read in a different order. The order in the PDF generated by the designer is correct, and the one in the service-generated PDF is wrong

Part of the difference comes from the Accessibility not being enabled when exporting from the designer. In this case, Adobe Acrobat Reader infers the reading order from the document structure.

Additionally, the “new layout” of Adobe Acrobat Reader changes the behavior of the ‘Read Out Loud’ functionality, effectively reading the PDF contents in an incorrect order. When switching to the “old layout”, the PDF contents are read as expected, also when Accessibility is enabled.

For the above reasons, we will close this item. Here are links to the other related items we are working on:
