Image Drawing / Annotation
The image editor is a great start, but missing a critical feature - image drawing / annotation. The ability to draw lines, shapes or text onto an image. Should allow this to be done when pinch / zoom is in progress. Items drawn should be amendable until saved. Opportunity to retrieve the annotation only data separately to the image so you can preserve the original.

Hello Ishani,

I am afraid this feature is not scheduled for implementation. When there is an update the status will be changed.

Hello,

Can we expect this feature in 2023?

Hello Greg,

Yes, this should be submitted as a Feature Request for UI for MAUI's ImageEditor control. This is because .NET MAUI is a new platform, with new controls (even though some have the same names and implementation instructions).

For your convenience, I have created the request on your behalf => Drawing Annotations Layer - Drawing, Shapes. You do not need to take any further action as I've transferred your upvote and you'll be notified of any status changes.

Note:

For everyone else in this thread, since I don't know if you're using .NET MAUI or not, I cannot automatically transfer your upvotes. Please take a moment to go to the linked item above and add your upvote. Thanks!

I am now migrating my application to .NET Maui, do I need to create another feedback item to get this added to the Image Editor there instead of the now basically obsolete Xamarin Forms platform?

I'm guessing though that if it was going to have been implemented it would have been sometime in the last 3.5 years since this request was created.

Hello all,

The image drawing/annotation feature status will be changed when there is an update. I cannot commit an exact time-frame when this feature will be provided.

Regarding to a solution until the feature is part of the image editor features set, use the approach Lance provided.

Is there any alternative to have this all annotation features. As SkiaSharp is only having bitmaps where we will not get all annotation features. If any available can you please mention.

three years plus since sync Fusion added this feature. Very much behind the curve here Telerik.

How many votes are necessary that Telerik implement a feature ?

The most feature requests have one or two votes.

Here 27 this is 2000% more.

Syncfusion have this feature why not Telerik?

Hi Tom (and others),

As a temporary alternative, you can use the same APIs that we would use in an official feature. You can draw those annotations using SkiaSharp (programmatically or via user gesture).

In fact, Microsoft has an excellent demo to get you 90% of the way there Finger Painting in SkiaSharp - Xamarin | Microsoft Docs.

Here are the other things you would want to consider based on your ultimate goal:

Also looking for something similar to https://www.syncfusion.com/xamarin-ios-ui-controls/image-editor or https://pspdfkit.com/guides/ios/annotations/annotate-images/. Construction workers need to circle items on their photos and add text notes. We don't need to save the original image separately, just add the markups into the image upon saving.

This feature would be a deal maker for us.  Hopefully one day the ability to annotate an image will be available.

Hi Yana,

In my case, being able to draw lines on an image, selecting the color, and width of the lines would be all that I need.  The scenario in my app is to allow the user to take a picture and annotate it to identify hazards, damage, etc.

Hope this helps,

Greg

I would love to see this functionality as well.  The ability to draw lines, shapes, or enter text on an image would be invaluable to my application.

Hello Tom,

Thank you for submitting this feature request. I agree this would be a valuable addition to the ImageEditor's feature-set, so I've updated the status of the item to "Approved".
You can also find your points updated for your involvement.

I'd also like to ask you for more details on the scenarios you would cover with this feature - in what cases more specifically would you use a drawing tool, what shapes would you expect to be available?

I am looking forward to your reply.

Yana
