Version mismatch between TS release and Chrome Extensions
We noticed a really weird issue where although the Chrome Extensions follow a similar version scheme as the TS releases (eg. 2014.4.1211.8), the latest version of the extensions are NOT MATCHING the corresponding version number of Test Studio. For example, as of today the latest version shown for the Chrome Recorder is 2014.4.1211.8, but the corresponding version of TS is 2015.2.715.0...

Shouldn't these version numbers be matching? Thanks!

Hi All,

Chrome recorder and playback extensions versions will match the Test Studio product version they are published for from now on. The latest extensions have been just published to Web Store with 2016.3 version. I hope that will make it more convenient for everyone.

Thanks!

Telerik: we have implemented an automatic download and registration of our Chrome extensions procedure during the install process, which will automatically get and install the necessary extensions and upon browser start users will be notified about new extensions added and enable them. The fix will be available in our next internal product release planned for Dec 2015.

Hi Konstantin, thanks for your reply! I think the main hold-up here for us and the end-users is not necessarily that we need a matching version for each release. From what I saw during our training, the Chrome extensions versioning schema was matching Test Studio's. So having a similar schema, but where the version numbers themselves aren't matching, can be pretty weird and misleading, no?

Hi All,

Please keep in mind Chrome Extensions generally support multiple Test Studio versions (for example 2014.4, 2015.1, 2015.2 are running fine with the latest extensions). Adding new extension for each product version will be a nightmare for support, not to mention the number per account is limited in Chrome Web Store.

Thanks!

I concur with Ryan; As a user, being able to match the version of the plug-in with the version of Test Studio is the clearest way to ensure there is not a version mis-match.

Hi Matt,

I believe the reason for this is that the recorder was last reworked for our December 11th, 2014 release. This is when we created a unified recorder, and recording experience, across all browsers.

I do agree that these extensions should have very clearly named components and version information in order for smooth installation and use. It seems like they are being updated, most recently on July 10th, but the version number stays the same.

Hope this helps.

Ryan
