Report duplicating items from SVG image when exporting to PDF

The attached 'Test.svg' image markup file contains 'use' statements that lead to duplicating part of the image parts when rendering the report in PDF.

The other file in the archive, 'Test-noUsings.svg' is the same image without 'use' statements and doesn't have this problem.

Hello Henri,

I'm glad to hear that the issue that initiated this thread, is fixed. The fix will be included in the next release of our product.

As for the next SVG-related problem you've found, we will need more information on it to ensure we understand the scenario correctly. I guess it's related to the SVG rendering in PDF when the PictureBox has its Sizing property set to Normal. However, since it's a new issue which is different from the one discussed here, I hope you don't mind if I open a new support ticket on your behalf (https://supportheroes.telerik.com/ticket/1620082) so we can continue investigating it there.

Regards,

Ivan Hristov

Reporting Team.

Hi Guys,

It looks like you guys fixed the problem at the beginning of this thread. However, we are still having problem with the picturebox size as image below.

In the design.

In the report preview.

In the PDF file.

Hi Henri,

Please, take a look at your support ticket #1597505 where we have attached the daily build of the Standalone Designer for you to test.

We would be looking forward to your feedback.

Hi Henri,

As promised, I'm reaching out to you to inform you that that we have managed to fix the bug with the 'use' statements in SVG rendering in PDF format. It's still in testing stage, but so far the results we get show no difference between IMAGE and PDF rendering outputs.

I've tested it with the SVG markup you provided earlier in this thread. However, if you would like to test it on your own with other SVG samples, I can only provide the Standalone Report Designer to test with. It uses the same rendering engine as the reports shown in WinForms Report Viewer (and, actually, the Preview mode of Standalone Report Designer uses the WinForms Report Viewer underneath) so there will be no difference in the rendered output.

I know you've shared that you're not really sure if you'll be able to use the Standalone Report Designer to create reports, but I can assure you it's a fairly simple process. I'm attaching also a video showing how the basic SVG testing is done. The attached .zip file also contains the produced PDF document so you can examine it on your end.

We expect to publish a minor release at the end of August and the fix will be included in it. If you would like to test it earlier using the Standalone Report Designer, please let us know.

Ivan Hristov

Hi Henri,

I understand your disappointment about the fix we didn't manage to deliver in R2. As soon as we have a working solution, we'll get in touch to ensure it works on your end too.

As for the last reported issue, I'd suggest to open a new support thread about it and discuss it there. This way the current thread will contain only information about the original problem - the duplicated items that appear when rendering in a PDF format.

I will open the new support thread on your behalf and move the relevant information there.

Thank you for your understanding.

Hi Ivan,

Thanks for your feedback. As we discuss previously, we were expecting to get a fix at the beginning of this month.

Answering your question to me, I am able to run a test for you, however, I use the Standalone Report Designer just to design the report template, the whole is added in runtime. I am not really good using the Standalone Report Designer to create new reports. If you have the report dll, I will be able to run and test in my application.

In addition, I noticed that it is not working properly as well inside of the report. When I use the dominant_baseline or text-anchor in a svg image, the report is not positioning correctly the text. I believe that is necessary an improvement in Telerik when treating with svg images.

Hi Henri,

Thank you for your patience. We investigated the issue and unfortunately were unable to provide a decent fix for the scheduled Service Pack release, which is due tomorrow. The issue is in development state and will be included in a subsequent release of our product - most probably in an Internal Build.

You will be automatically notified about any change in the item's status.

Hi Ivan Hristov, any news about this issue? We have some reports in our application that we cannot launch because of the issues.

Kind regards

Hi Ivan Hristov.

I've discussed internally and we can wait until you guys get it fixed at the end of July.

I really appreciated your effort to solve this issue in your report tool.

Hi Henri,

My name is Ivan Hristov and I'm the engineering manager of Reporting team. I'm sorry to hear about the problems you have with the SVG support in PDF documents. We are currently working on our incoming R2 2023 release, which is due on June 7th, and unfortunately won't be able to squeeze this one in.

We have increased the priority of the issue and will dedicate time for fixing it after the release. If we come up with a solution, it will be included in our R2 2023 Service Pack release, which usually is scheduled one month after the major release (i.e. beginning of July 2023).

I've changed the status of the feedback item to 'Planned' and once we start working on it, we will change it again to 'In Development'. You should receive automated notifications for each change of its status.

I hope our plan works for you.

Guys, how can we escalate this problem internally? All our reports are a mess.

From report everything seems to be fine.

After generate a .pdf file. We need a quick solution as we cannot have a system that is not able to produce some reports.

If we use the print method to generate a .pdf file, it works fine.

Hello Henri,

I'm afraid that fixing this issue is not in our immediate plans. We will do our best to address it by the end of the year 2023. You will be automatically updated when the status of the work item changes.

Hi guys, any idea when we will have a fix for rendering problem?

.pdf file. Lines are not being rendered properly in .pdf.

Original, from report.

We need a solution as it is impacting our reports.

Hello Henri,

Thank you for sharing the problem with us. I confirm also this issue and have added it to the bug description. It is probably related to the other issue and is specific to PDF rendering. I suspect that the 'wrong' duplicate of the image parts remains after the removal of the use statements.

I removed the use statement from the SVG file and the problem persist.

Into Report viewer the position of my rectangle is correct.

Once I save it as a .pdf file, the rectangle is not at the correct position.
