Hello,

I have discussed the feature with our development team and we scheduled its implementation for R2 2021. As soon as there are any updates on the status, you will receive a notification.

Has there been any development feedback on adding one or more events, like DetailLineRendered or PageRendered, to help with this issue?  Something simple that might help?

please proceed this feature, mam. user often keeps on clicking "View" button whenever there is no output for some moments, they do not know whats really happening to the report, while backend process is in processing actually.

Our company would also like to see some sort of feature for this.  When our customers run a stored proc that takes ≈50s and the corresponding export to pdf takes ≈11 min it kind of leaves the user out there wondering if anything is even happening.

I agree that determining time remaining would be difficult and probably inaccurate, so a progress bar seems quite difficult to do. I was thinking more in terms of indicating progress, not estimating remaining time.

Although you do not know at first how many records will be processed, you must know when you render a record. How about an event that just indicates a detail line has been processed, rendered, etc.?

Currently, prior to rendering the report, we do a query to count the number of detail lines to be printed. And we embed a user function at the end of the detail line which reports when each detail line is initially processed. So we can show a progress bar based on that.

However, there is a period of time, generally about 5 times as long as the time when we are tracking the initial detail line processing, where we cannot see anything happening. For us, that is where more progress feedback is needed. If the initial detail processing takes 2 minutes for, let's say 100,000 detail lines, then there could be about 10 more minutes when the user cannot see any progress.

I don't know the details of your processing, but clearly there are multiple passes over the universe of detail lines. How about an event that returns information on the phase of processing and the counter within the phase for each phase/detail line?

Hi. It would be great to have such progress, indeed. But by what means can we calculate how much time it remains? Here is alternative question, which relates to this one: How can a SQL Server report when will a stored procedure or a SELECT query end? Any ideas are more than welcome.

There should not have been a reporting solution without this feature.

Will a report run for 10 seconds or 10 hours? This feature is needed to let end users know that something is happening when a report takes a long time to process.
