Allow column reordering in designer

Hi,

With the 2024 Q1 release end users editing reports in the Web Report Designer can now reorder table columns by selecting and invoking a move left/move right context action. Please give it a try and share if it meets your requirements. The functionality will be also implemented in the Standalone Report Designer in the future.

All,

This is to notify you that this feature is In development for the Web Report Designer which is now the main design tool targeting end-users self-service reporting. The engineering team assured me there is a good chance that it will be ready for the 2024 Q1 release.

Hi Corey,

Yes, we do plan to eventually include the column reordering for the web report designer too but we still have not had planning for this so we cannot say whether this would be implemented for every designer since day one or will be implemented for the web designer at a later time.

However, we are not sure about the other specification, regarding reordering columns based on a user custom configuration, could you please elaborate further on how you would imagine this to work?

Hi Dimitar - great to see this is has been approved as valid!

With this, would the reordering capabilities be added to the Web Viewer also? (through custom resolver)

We would like to be able to programmatically reorder columns based on the user's custom configuration when viewing a report.

6 years since this feature was requested and I believe it is an important one. Our team are tasked with improving the reporting within our application, this will require non-technical individuals to have a small amount of editing capabilities, including column reordering.

I'd like to see this feature on a road-map so we do not need to look into alternative reporting solutions - provided this feature is planned at some stage.

I would be very happy for any improvement beyond deleting and re-inserting columns. I'm happy to cut and paste code. I don't see the steps Jason referred to, but I haven't found any such steps in a few minutes of searching. This is really needed.   We're evaluating report systems and this is a nasty strike against Telerik.

Even if drag/drop is a tricky gesture to capture well, *any* way to reorder columns without the inconvenient and prone-to-error list of steps Scott points out would be really helpful.

Update 2 years later: no idea what I referring to by Scott's steps - sorry for my orphaned reference there -- maybe this thread was modified since I originally commented.
