Hello David,

Thank you for your constructive and detailed feedback. It is much appreciated.

I am glad to inform you that this is now implemented and the size of the files should be a lot smaller than before.

This functionality however will be available in R3 2022 Release which is expected in mid-September.

It is also available with Telerik UI for WPF's latest internal build - LIB 2022.2.718 (18 Jul 2022) if you need it earlier.

Thank you, David, for helping us improve the quality of our product by sharing your input and feedback on this.

Regards,
Peshito

Telerik support opened this ticket on our behalf.

We found the PDF file generated by Telerik Document Processing (PDF) to be extremely large in size compared to when PDFs are generated using another competitor's product. In many cases, the PDFs generated by Telerik were around 8x the file size.

Why does the file size matter?

  • Impacts storage costs: in our scenario, it would increase storage costs by 8x
  • Impacts users who need to distribute the generated reports via email (large attachments often get rejected by mail servers)
  • Impacts collaboration with other organizations: our users work in the financial sector and would be unable to send the generated PDFs to their key financial partners because they would be rejected due to the excessive file size

My understanding is that there are a variety of techniques that other products have used to optimize the file size of their output. One such technique, for instance, is that when fonts are embedded in the PDF that only a subset of the font's used characters are included.

In the future, hopefully the team at Telerik can explore opportunities to reduce the output file size.
