PdfProcessing: Export document pages to images

Currently, for .NET Framework scenarios, this could be achieved using RadPdfViewer's WPF control ThumbnailFactory class. Sample code may be seen at this forum post: http://www.telerik.com/forums/pdf-thumbnail-returns-transparent-images#jO33X-E8Cki_qLh_KsToWg.

The feature should be implemented for .NET Standard as well.

Hi Pedro,

Yes, the functionality will be available in .NET Core and .NET Standard as well. At this point, the task is in an Unplanned state and it is still not implemented in the current version of PdfProcessing. Please, continue following this item so we can notify you about status changes on it.

Add me to the list, was quite surprised this would not be available.  I am using Xamarin forms and this would be the obvious way to display a file list

Hello Roberto,

I understand your frustration and I want to apologize for the inconvenience this missing functionality might be causing you.

If it is an option for you I can suggest using the WPF PdfViewer`s ThumbnailFactory class in order to Export Fixed Page to Image. We have a sample example in the Export RadFixedPage to image knowledge base article.

Another option could be to check for an open-source alternative for converting PDF files to images.

Martin

It seems that DevExpress' equivalent PDF processing library does support this feature.

https://docs.devexpress.com/OfficeFileAPI/120344/pdf-document-api/examples/export-a-pdf-document-to-an-image/how-to-export-a-pdf-document-to-a-bitmap

I would seriously consider switching to DevExpress over this feature alone, as maintaining both would be too costly, and it is very important to my application.

I have an urgent need for this feature. I was hoping it was included in the PDF processing API, but am disappointed to learn it is not. What I want is to be able to convert a PDF to an image collection, one image per page, which I can ensure is print-scalable relative to the imported PDF document (so, depending on its print size). My purpose is to use the image for defining regions of interest for printing and scanning PDF images.

Hello Moishy,

This feature is not scheduled for implementing at this point as the team is working on more demanded tasks. I have raised the priority of the task but due to the tight planning, I am unable to say when it might be implemented. Make sure to follow this item so you can be notified when its status changes.

It should crop the images so every individual image has no whitespaces and If it could use the "actual size" option of pdf it would be lovely
