WordsProcessing: Add support for import/export of shapes from/to DOCX
Add support for shapes, and especially for shapes with textual content. 
In OOXML, shapes are represented by the wps:wsp element, and shapes with textual content by <wps:txbx>, <w:txbxContent>.
Such shape can be added to a Word document using the Insert -> Text -> Text Box -> Draw Text Box, or through a shape's context menu -> Add Text.

Do not confuse these shapes with Text/Rich Text content controls (see https://feedback.telerik.com/Project/184/Feedback/Details/190057 )

As most of you may already know we have added support for importing and exporting documents containing shapes without losing the content when working with *.docx files (as of R3 2022). In order to better prioritize the remaining work, we have decided to split it into several items. You can find them listed here:

You can vote and subscribe to any or all items you deem necessary. This item will be renamed to "WordsProcessing: Add support for import/export of shapes from/to DOCX" and will be marked as implemented.

Hi Javier,

Indeed, the export of different shapes to PDF is still not included. We continue working on extending the functionality and appreciate sharing your scenario with us. Make sure to follow the next updates of the library through the release history so you can see when this particular part is released. All the changes are listed in the release history for the specific product.

Hi Tanya,

We take documents uploaded by the users and convert them to PDF using the Docx and Pdf format providers before displaying it on a client side pdf viewer.

These documents are in majority DOCX and about half of them have different types of shapes and/or charts.

The conversion to pdf works pretty well for all content, except for shapes and charts. These are not converted and we get a blank space instead.

I totally understand that the lack of a needed functionality can be frustrating. We are already working on developing this feature and with the latest release, WordsProcessing supports the import and export of shapes in DOCX format. Have you tested it? What is the exact functionality you need?

I'm following this thread for a long time now and I'm kinda surprised on how a feature with so many votes by the community has no real update, no solution nor workaround after 4 years. 

We adquired the license specifically for document processing and we find that almost half of the docs have shapes included and cannot be converted.

Could you at least inform if it will be implemented in the near future or not? We need to know if either wait for a solution or switch to another library.

I'm sorry if this message sounds rough but we feel very frustrated.

Hi Mariner,

In the current release, we have introduced support for the import/export of the shapes. We will continue working on this feature in the current release as well however I cannot say when this will be ready.

Thank you for sharing your feedback, I am glad to hear that the components help you and your customers. Since the work on the implementation has already been started, I believe that we should be able to release the functionality in one of the releases during the current year.

This item is part of the internal item we use to track the status of the task and the developers are also aware of the communication here and the importance of the request.

We will be happy to hear your feedback about the functionality when you have the chance to test it once it is released.

Thank you for the updated information, that this issue is currently in a development sprint. I hope this issue is resolved before our next license renewal, May 23, 2024. The PDF Viewer &vPDF Processing is the main functionality we use from the WPF Telerik suite of controls. I recommended Progress/Telerik when I came to this position from another company. We only do 4 releases for this customer each year. Please emphasize the importance that this issue be resolved to the developers. I am a long-time developer and user of your controls. It saves us time and money and gives a great experience to this customer and the end-user of the kiosk application.

I totally agree with you on the importance of the feature and understand the issues the lack of functionality can cause. There were more demanded tasks requiring the team's attention during the previous releases and this one was on the waiting list. However, the support for shapes is currently in In Development state and it will be available with one of the next releases. Please, make sure you are subscribed for notifications about status changes on the task through the Follow button of this item. That way, you will receive automatic emails when the status is moved to Completed.

I upgraded to release Telerik UI for WPF R2 2022 (2022.2.511). The support of Shapes is still not here. Our Kiosk application allows customers to convert Word Docx files to PDF for printing. Not having support for Shapes is presenting a bad customer experience. There is no error or warning that the conversion to PDF did not fully work. The only way a customer knows is after they convert and view it in the PDF Viewer. This is potentially causing a loss of sales revenue. 

Please add the support of Shapes in the import/conversion from Word Docx to PDF files.

I am attaching a sample tri-fold brochure document template that does not convert properly.

Please give some indication as to when we can expect this. The last update on this issue was nearly 1 year ago. The issue was reported 5 years ago. Why hasn't this received more attention?

This feature is still not planned for implementation. I cannot say when it will be available. 

Please note that we have added shapes support in the latest version of RadRichTextBox for WPF and if you are using a desktop application you can consider using it until this is developed.

Most of our clients documents use Shapes including logo and text. Any update if this has been planned or when it will be added?

Hello,

I'm very new to this Document Processing, and it seems to me it can be a tool that can make you save time as a developer. You can have merged mail for Word. The same could be accomplished with Telerik Reporting, but it is an overkilled development using Reporting.

I think shapes should have a support since any company document has its logo at header, and some other text and shapes at footer, even a watermark on its body.

Firstly I thought to create a RadFlowDocument template, and found out there wasn't a way to save this "template". Secondly, I said, let's import it from a Word Template. Great, but cannot import shapes. So, I guess, I have to do all the shape insertion for every document I create when importing a Word template and filling it with the needed text, or merging data, or replacing would be a great advance.

You do not have a WYSIWYG interface for Document Processing, to make it as with any reporting tool, so we can save a RadFlowDocument template (or any other Document type) and use it on the project. So, we need to use error and trial method until we get the same document our image department created.

Hope you can incorporate shapes support pretty soon. Thanks.

The planning for the next release has been made and unfortunately, this feature is not included there. The reason it's not scheduled for implementation is that the development team is working on more demanding tasks. Currently, I cannot say when this task will be scheduled for implementation. Please, continue following this item so we can notify you when the status updates.

Hi Tanya,

 

we have a word template with shapes with textual content, tables and other content (normal text, images, ...). In this template we have mergefields in tables, that would we fill.

To fill the mergefields work perfect, but we lost the shapes with textual content.

Is the support for shapes with textual content on your roadmap?

The task is not scheduled for implementation for our next release and I cannot provide you with a timeframe when the feature might be available. Since there are pretty much types of shapes, could you please share which are the ones most important for you so I can update our internal information?
