As I already answered you in the mentioned support ticket, we are not able to reproduce the described behavior with the last stable version of MS Excel, so please, provide us with more information about the version of Excel where this encryption occurs.

I would like to ask you to continue this discussion in the other ticked thread.

We start having cases where files were produced with Document Processing Library and with few cells locked using:

are saved automatically from recent versions of Excel encrypted with an empty password.

So basically there a no way to open them again from the same library.
Any advice here?

Hi, Paul,

When password protecting a workbook, the resulting .xlsx file is no longer stored in the OpenXML format, used by our API but in a type of binary format. Parsing this new format to OpenXML would require a significant effort as we would most probably have to implement an entirely new format provider. I understand how this feature is important to your business, still, since it is of much higher complexity, I would not want to mislead you by sharing an ETA for its implementation.

Hello,

Since this feature does not appear to be added anytime soon, is there any advice on how to implement this ourselves? This is a much-needed required feature for my application needs.

After submitting a ticket inquiring about this functionality, I was redirected here. I think data security is getting a lot more attention since this was first submitted. With this feature, we would be able to build workflows where each exported sheet could be protected by passwords that have a degree of uniqueness. (per user / document / client / etc). This would be useful for the save as excel from radgrid for simple scenarios, as well.

Hi, any update on this? We had to use another third party library to solve for the time being. Would be nice to handle directly within our Telerik libraries.

Hi Daniele,

As we discussed in the support thread, the item is with status "Approved" at this point. That means that we evaluate its priority when we plan the tasks that should be implemented for the next release. 

This task is currently not scheduled and I cannot say when it might be implemented, so I would suggest you to ensure you have subscribed using the "Follow this item button" so you can be updated when the status of the task changes.
