We need the same ExpressEditor as the folks have over in Sliverlight: http://www.telerik.com/products/silverlight/expressioneditor.aspx Please provide exact same functionality for starters.
Add a new column type "AutoExpand", I have lots of grids where the number of columns changes dynamically but the width of each column is fixed, this means that the width of the grid data section changes and with only a few columns defined leave a big vertical space between the last data column and the grid right hand border. It would be great to be able to add a AutoExpand column as the last column in the grid to fill any remaining space between the end of the last data column and the grid righthand border. This will give you a consistant look regardless of how many columns are added.
Client side data from odata works great, filter and paging with no extra coding. Surely grouping should be done client side, requesting the amount of data it requries from the odata source. This can make sure when groups are closing, the javascript can request more data to fill up the paging.
This should improve performance in this situation when client side data-binding can be used.
It makes no sense that the GridButtonColumn does not have the Single Click feature just like the RadButton. Why would the web users not be double-clicking this button as opposed to a stand-alone button? It is not even consistent - the button in a RadGrid's GridButtonColumn should be a RadButton.
If I'm to believe the Telerik agent in this forum thread... http://www.telerik.com/community/forums/reply-thread.aspx?messageId=0&threadId=750553 then presenting users WITHTEXTTHATLOOKSLIKETHIS (as is done by default in Metro Skin Grid Filter Menu) is a "design" feature. I happen to believe that menu items ought to be readable by human users and not appear like they are the result of some sort of keyboard malfunction... at least by default. If some "designer" out there feels the need to present their users with ABSURDTEXTFORMATTING, then it is they that should be required to implement some sort of hack, not the rest of us. This was a horrible design decision made by someone at Telerik, and the fact that I am required to appeal to other developers who have better things to do with their time in order to get Telerik to see the absurdity of this design and fix it is most troubling.
I want to use tab key for filter. First i am entering filter text in first column then pressing tab. So i want after press tab the courser should go to next column and should allow typing. Check my demo first search with name column then press tab key the courser not going to next column and not allowing typing.
People keeps complaining that web grids are slower and more difficult to use than Excel. We definitely need a radgrid control with excel-like editing. Ideally we need the look-and-feel of the radspreadsheet, with the fixed columns of the radgrid, the events for updating a database, and maybe direct databinding to a database table. What they want to see is Excel. Like the MS-Access UI, when they move (with keyboard) from row to row, they expect the database to get updated accordigly.
It would be very useful if the GridDropDownColumn had some way of accessing the database value of the control when not in edit mode. It is very roundabout to have to add more controls or hidden fields just to access data that was already pulled from the database. Some kind of function that could get the value which corresponds to the shown text would be exceptionally useful.
The problem for which the bug was opened was not actually caused by the RadGrid. It was triggered by wrong configuration of the test sample. The parent container which held the grid had disabled ViewState in which case it is expected for the filter values and filter functions to not persist.
When the grid has no paging and all the groups are collapsed its good to have a paging defined within grouping to display all the groups in the same page as well can browse through the items within the group with paging defined.
Ability to add custom buttons to the command item collection.
I brought this to Telerik's attention 4 years ago. The grid Pager is a poor location for the built-in loading image because it is not clearly visible in a number of scenarios. First off, it is small and tucked in the corner, which makes it hard to see. But there are other scenarios where it is completely invisible. If the grid height is fixed and larger than the screen size, the entire pager is not visible unless the user scrolls the window. So, the loading image will not be visible when users take actions like sorting/editing/deleting/filtering which tend to occur towards the top of the grid. And, if the grid has Paging disabled, then the pager and built-in loading image will NEVER be visible. I understand that one can add a custom loading image which would work better. And if asked, Telerik can provide a couple dozen lines of custom javascript which will move the loading image for a grid. But If your project has a large number of grids, adding code to each is untenable. And at the end of the day, this should be a built-in feature of Rad Grid, not something that needs to be hacked to work appropriately. RadWindow used to have a tiny loading image in the status bar which was invisible in a number of scenarios, most notably when the status bar was disabled. The Rad Window team saw fit to move the loading image to the center of the Rad Window where it belonged. This was years ago. For some reason, the Rad Grid team has not seen fit to do the same. Why is the RadWindow team aware of and responsive to concerns about the usability of their control and the Rad Grid team is not?
Is any option to use RadGrid in disconnected mode. So when user lost connection with internet(intranet), he can continue to work with grid - add new record, edit records. In html 5 appear such technologies like HTML5 Storage,Web Sql. Is it any way to interact with them?
For RadGrid (and other similar controls) it would be nice to be able to simply add AutoHeight="true" to the elements markup to make the grid calculate the browser height and adjust it's own height (including the scrollable DataDiv inside it) automatically rather than having to resort to custom javascript to achieve the same thing. ie: activate AutoHeight on RadGrid and simply set the distance from the bottom of the browser window to allow for footers, etc. and have that distance maintained even when the browser is resized. Height and ScrollHeight can only use explicit values - not percentages - which is kind of useless if you want the grid to occupy 100% of the available browser height across different devices. http://www.telerik.com/help/aspnet-ajax/grid-height-vs-scrollheight.html
It should be client's decision to style his grid, we can not change the dimentions, since it will bre breaking change for the rest of the customers
It would be nice if automatic insert/update functions could require unique data. I would love to use these features, but always have to write the insert and update routines manually to check that duplicates are not used.
