Feature Request: Support for native CSS functions in ThemeBuilder

Hello Telerik-Team,

Since we design now our themes for the application through the Themebuilder we found some missing features that regards the usage of native css functions.

It is very simple to set up the theme with the default components, but yesterday we started with custom components. Soon we found it that no css functions where supported at your end.

For calculating the right amount of rem and  repeat grid colums it would be great to have it in one place, instead of manipulating CSS code after we've already exported the theme and implemented it into our application.

Hello Telerik Team,

We are currently using ThemeBuilder to design our application themes. While the tool is incredibly straightforward for styling default components, we encountered a limitation when working with custom components: native CSS functions currently do not appear to be supported.

Specifically, we need the ability to use functions like calc() (for calculating accurate values) and repeat()(for CSS grid columns) directly within the ThemeBuilder interface.

Because these functions are not supported, we currently have to manually manipulate the CSS code after exporting the theme and integrating it into our application. Adding support for native CSS functions would allow us to keep all styling centralized in one place and eliminate these manual post-export workarounds.

Could you let us know if supporting native CSS functions is something that could be added to your roadmap?

Thank you,

Anthony Timmel

Hello Anthony,

Thank you for the feedback and for the clear description of your scenario.

We can confirm that some native CSS functions such as calc() are currently flagged as invalid in the ThemeBuilder custom CSS editor, even when the syntax is valid.

We will triage this request and consider the implementation options. Please note that the CSS-based Kendo Fluent theme and the SASS-based themes work differently. Support (if we decide to go forward with that feature) may therefore be introduced in stages, and we can't commit to a scope or timeline yet. Once we have more to share, we will update this public thread.

Thank you again for helping us improve ThemeBuilder.
