Themebuilder crashes after changing font size
Hi,

My projects in Themebuilder breaks whenever I try to change the font size!

Steps to reproduce the error:
  1. Create a new project (Font icons, Q4 2025 latest, Bootstrap)
  2. Click on "Project setting".
  3. Click on "Metrics".
  4. Change:
    1. $kendo-font-size-md: 0.875rem
    2. $kendo-font-size-sm: 0.75rem
    3. $kendo-font-size-xs: 0.625rem

  5. Close project settings.
  6. Now the project is broken.
    1. Crash in javascript console:
Uncaught _P: There are errors in SASS and it cannot be compiled to CSS.
PATCH https://themebuilderapp.telerik.com/api/v1/projects/6928717ab857146bc01d9a2e/variables 500 (Internal Server Error)

    2. The project cannot be saved:

  7. It is no longer possible to load the project. The same error appears in the console as shown above.
  8. If I export the metadata from this broken project from the Dashboard and import it into a new project, that project also breaks. I have attached the metadata.

Please help!

Hello Douglas,

Thank you for reaching out and for providing the detailed reproduction steps!

I can confirm that the observed behavior is indeed a legitimate bug in ThemeBuilder, and the team is already working on a fix that will be released through a patch version. The issue was documented in the following public GitHub thread, which you can reference:

https://github.com/telerik/themebuilder/issues/181

Meanwhile, as a temporary solution, you can fix an affected project by following these steps:

- Export the broken metadata project

- Open the metadata file and delete all variables from the $kendo-font-size-xx family that have been modified. These variables have a modified ID that does not follow the original syntax of the unmodified variables (see the screenshot for an example).

- Save the modified metadata as a file named data.json and create a ZIP archive.

- Create a new project, then use the "Import Metadata" option while passing the archive with the saved metadata.
