Mouse stops working after reconnecting to Windows remote desktop
I ran Fiddler Classic on a remote PC via Windows Remote Desktop (RDP) on my laptop, which used an external large monitor for display. Both my laptop and the remote PC run Windows 10 OS. If somehow the remote desktop connection was temporarily lost (due to laptop going sleep or network glitch) and reconnected later, the Fiddler on the remote PC stopped responding to the mouse operation.

Hello Jinhui,

It makes sense that Fiddler Everywhere does not reproduce the issue as the Everywhere application is Electron-based, and the Fiddler Classic is created via different UI tooling (WinForms). I hope that you will be able to use Fiddler Everywhere as a temporary solution for your case.

Meanwhile, I am still trying to reproduce this one. I will mark it as a bug for additional research.

Hi Nick,

The new Fiddler Everywhere application doesn't have this problem.

Thanks,

Jinhui

Hi Nick,

Thanks for looking into this. Regarding your questions:

- The issue also happened to another (in-house) application. But other applications are fine.

- The keyboard still works in Fiddler Classic once it happens.

- Restarting Fiddler Classic can get the mouse to work again.

I suspect that the issue might be related to using a large external monitor (the laptop monitor is not used in my setup using Windows display settings). The reason is that the mouse starts working again without restarting Fiddler if I do the following to the external monitor's display source:

step 1. Select a different display source using the controls on the external monitor (then the laptop monitor gets the display back).

step 2. Select the laptop display source using the controls on the external monitor (then the external monitor gets the display back).

Note that the above steps are different from switching the display between the laptop's monitor and the external monitor using Windows display settings on the laptop. The latter does not get the mouse back.

My external monitor is Dell UltraSharp UP3216Q. I hope that you can reproduce the problem using some other external monitor.

Thanks,

Jinhui

Hi Jinhui Liu,

I've tried to reproduce the described issue by simulating network disconnection during a remote session to a Fiddler PC but so far to no avail (mouse interactions are still working after reconnection). That leads me to believe that there might be some side reasons for your issue. Could you let us know the following:

- Is the issue appearing with other applications apart from the Fiddler Classic?

- Are you still able to interact with the keyboard (going through Fiddler tabs or executing commands via keyboard shortcuts)?

- Is the issue still present after restarting the Fiddler Classic client?

As a side note, you could use the new Fiddler Everywhere application, Electron-based, and comes with a different UI and let us know if the issue is still appearing.
