Hi Jens,

The one bit was indeed helpful in narrowing the issue. Thank you for the updated info! We will test against a more extensive list of filtered domains and post any information related to that case.

After I emptied my (fairly large) list of filtered domains it started rather quickly again. So I would say it is related to it. Can't say how much entries I had exactly but it was certainly way beyond 30 entries.

BTW I was really happy when you introduced the feature to automatically save/restore that filter list. The UI could be improved, sure, but that's ok.

Hey Jens G,

First of all, let me assure you that Progress strictly follows all GDPR requirements. Details on our privacy policy and the information we collect (including GDPR compliance) can be found on our Privacy Policy page.

Regarding the issue you are facing - we are interested in finding out more about what might be causing the problem. Could you please tell us more about the following:

- The version of the classic Fiddler used on the PCs where the issue happens. Is it the latest version published live here (v5.0.20204.45441 for .NET 4.6.1 Built: Tuesday, November 3, 2020)?
- The version of the .NET version is installed and used on your Windows PC.
- As Eric suggested, the issue might be related to a 3rd-party extension, 3rd-party security software, or large lists of AR rules. Are any of those present at your side?

Try to completely reinstall the Fiddler application, remove any 3rd-party extensions, temporarily stop any 3rd party network-related tools that might be running in the background and clear any previously existing history lists and AR rules. Then let us know if the issue persists.

Do you have any unusual security software or other utilities on this system?

Is there a comprehensive list of what counts as usual?

No, same. I can give you a procmon log file showing a 20 second delay (around 10:00:20) where nothing happens.

The check for a prior instance of Fiddler should take no more than 200ms (that's how long it'll wait to acquire a mutex).

Do you have any unusual security software or other utilities on this system?

If you Start > Run > fiddler.exe -viewer does it start any faster?

Windows 10, consecutive starts (if days weeks and months count as consecutive?)

It says "Searching for previous instances"

If this is for Fiddler Classic (the Winforms app for Windows Desktop) what does the line of text on the splash screen say that it's doing?

Two possibilities are loading something unexpectedly enormous (extension, composer history list, rules, etc), or a very slow Windows API call (e.g. collecting or setting proxy info).

Hello,

Is this happening only on the latest version's initial startup, or is it happening on consecutive starts? If possible, please provide more information about the OS versions (where Fiddler takes time to load).
