FileDialogs are constructed by RadWindow and ExplorerControl as its content.

Explorer control holds navigation tree, autocomplete, filtering combobox, main pane for viewing fodler and files, search box, breadcrumb. You can check all visual parts in the following help article:

http://docs.telerik.com/devtools/wpf/controls/radfiledialogs/visual-structure

Users might need to put the ExplorerControl in non-window parts of their application (for example in docked RadPane of RadDocking. Also, they might need to override OK/Cancel commands for that purpose.

Click on Drive / Folder in the Navigation tree should put its Name in the AutoComplete box and then pressing the Open Button of the dialog should choose the selected drive / folder and close the dialog.

Currently, the root of the file system is "This PC". Allow setting a custom folder as a root (for example, C:\Users\mivanov\Documents) and show only its children.

TextSearch navigation in the Main Pane does not work. If you press letter "a" the first folder with Name starting with "a" should be selected.
This needs to work in alll layouts including Details which uses RadGridView.

Currently, showing a dialog can take 10-20 seconds when started in DEBUG mode.

And 3-5 seconds RELEASE mode. Improve the loading time.

A little way to speed up is to set ExpandToCurrentDirectory to False.

Currently RadFileDialogs do not provide such tooltips when hovering files and folders.

Check the attached image for clarification.

Release LIB 2019.2.812 (8/12/2019)
The items inside the Tree Navigation Pane are not sorted in the same way as the native MS dialog. In our OpenFolderDialog when there is a file or folder name which starts with underscore "_" the file/folder is placed at the bottom of the tree navigation view. Looking at the tree from the MS dialog it is placed at the top.

In the Main Pane, the items are sorted correctly.

Add properties that control the visibility the first two rows. Those are the rows that contain the breadcrumbs, new folder button, layout combo box, etc.

Overrideble properties / methods in DialogViewModels could be added to support custom (or filtered) sources of the navigation TreeView and navigation Breadcrumb.

As a temporary solution, users might filter the breadcrumb this way:
 var breadCrumb = (sender as RadOpenFolderDialog).ChildrenOfType<RadBreadcrumb>().LastOrDefault();
            if (breadCrumb != null)
            {
                RadBreadcrumbBarItem bar = breadCrumb.ItemContainerGenerator.ContainerFromIndex(0) as RadBreadcrumbBarItem;

                DirectoryInfoWrapper bDrive = bar.Items.OfType<DirectoryInfoWrapper>().FirstOrDefault(dir => dir.Name.StartsWith("B"));
                bar.Items.Remove(bDrive);

                DirectoryInfoWrapper rDrive = bar.Items.OfType<DirectoryInfoWrapper>().FirstOrDefault(dir => dir.Name.StartsWith("R"));
                bar.Items.Remove(rDrive);
            }

To filter the treeview:

 var tree = (sender as RadOpenFolderDialog).ChildrenOfType<RadTreeView>().LastOrDefault();
            if (tree != null)
            {
                tree.LoadOnDemand += Tree_LoadOnDemand;
            }
   private void Tree_LoadOnDemand(object sender, Telerik.Windows.RadRoutedEventArgs e)
        {
            RadTreeViewItem clickedItem = e.OriginalSource as RadTreeViewItem;
            List<DirectoryInfoWrapper> dirsToRemove = new List<DirectoryInfoWrapper>();
            foreach (DirectoryInfoWrapper dir in clickedItem.Items.OfType<DirectoryInfoWrapper>())
            {
                // removing drives 'R:' and 'B:' for testing purposes.
                if (dir.Name.StartsWith("R") || dir.Name.StartsWith("B"))
                {
                    dirsToRemove.Add(dir);
                }
            }
            dirsToRemove.ForEach(dir => clickedItem.Items.Remove(dir));
        }

Introduce a mechanism to allow executing search manually. Similar to the RadGridViewCommands.SearchByText command.

Can you please add the ability to select (and scroll into view) a file/folder in the RadFileDialog by keyboard? i.e. when focused within the files section of the dialog, typing 's' should scroll to the first file starting with 's' and select it.

All the Win32 and WPF file dialogs support this.

It would be nice to have some additional public properties and commands for ExplorerControl.  For example:

  • Boolean properties to show/hide the first two rows (containing the breadcrumbs, new folder button, layout combo box, etc.).
  • Search command or public SearchText property.
  • Cancellable OnNavigating event.
  • Navigation tree "RootDirectory" property, which would replace the top-level "This PC" node.

Thanks for your consideration!

Expose an event that allows you to cancel the navigation to a folder. For example, if you enter an address in the breadcrumb, click the back button, or select a directory in the navigation tree, then you should be able to cancel the navigation.

This can be done via a new event that have a Cancel property in its arguments, for example.

The naming shown here is not mandatory.
