To reproduce :
Create a self-referencing hierarchy, bind it to a BindingList and delete the row with either the delete button or from the context menu and click the deleted item.
Workaround :
Find the object that has to be deleted, hide the selected row and remove the found object from the data source.
void radGridView1_UserDeletingRow(object sender, GridViewRowCancelEventArgs e)
{
    e.Cancel = true;
    int id = int.Parse(e.Rows[0].Cells["Id"].Value.ToString());
    var human = this.humans.FirstOrDefault(x => x.Id == id);
    if (human != null)
    {
        this.radGridView1.SelectedRows[0].IsVisible = false;
        this.humans.Remove(human);
    }
}

I still have the performance problem. I have attached the same project extende by a new button/(function to create a new group with one root entry and 100 sub-entries. This takes a while due to the log of the data context, but what really takes me off is the performance of the grid when opening this root entry. On my machine (i5, 4GB ram) it takes about 5-6 seconds for the sub-structure to open. The zip also contains an old version of the program and in the bin/debug folder you can find the "RadTest.exe" (as opposed to the RadTest2.exe), wich will open the sub-structure in no time.
So - there must be something wrong with my way of working the grid.

To reproduce: Run the program, click the "Generate" Button and enter a name for the new group. This will create 101 new entries (1 root, 100 subs), taking about 15-20 secs (which is ok, as I said above).
Then open the "RootEntry" within the group -> takes 5-6 seconds. When the subentries are visible, scrolling the grid vertically is really slow as well.

1. Create a new project with RadGridView and setup 4 level hierarchy.
2. Add a button and handle its Click event.
3. In the Click event handler expand all rows. Surround the code with calls to Begin/EndUpdate methods of RadGridView or GridViewTemplate.
4. Run the application and click the button.

Workaround use the Begin.EndUpdate method of the TableElement, not the grid control

1. Create a new project and add RadGridView.
2. Bind it to a data source with many columns, so that a scrollbar appears at run time.
3. Set up validation.
4. Run the project and put a cell in edit mode.
5. Write a value that will not pass the validation.
6. Use the horizontal scrollbar to scroll to right.
