If Productivity Power Tools is installed and the Custom Document Well feature is turned on (see attached screen shot) then at the time the Test Studio activation wizard tries to display Visual Studio will lock up hard. You have to kill the process to regain control. This problem goes away as soon as you:
a) Activate a purchased license (activation wizard no longer appears)
b) Or turn off the Custom Document Well feature
