For controls like ListView (web and mobile). We have features like server filtering. I feel there should be a configuration to perform filter operation mixing both client side and server side filtering.
Scenario 1: Lets say I have 20 results to be populated based on the filter criteria and I have 2 results already present on the client side and rest 18 are present on the server rather than fetching all 20 results from server freshly this way data transfer can be optimized up to certain extent.

Scenario 2: filtering should results based on the client side results and list out 2 results and there should be option load more from server similar to outlook mail search feature.

The success() function in the DataSource should check the response status. If the status is 304 "Not Modified", that indicates that the data has not changed and so the DataSource should not modify its internal data structures nor fire the "change" event.

Visual Studio plugin to generate javascript proxy classes for communicating with web services.

Normally in ASP.Net the .Net proxy classes would be generated for me, but since I am now moving towards building RIA applications most of the WS calls now take place client side. The process of manually setting up service calls is a bit cumbersome so if KendoUI could include a tool for this it would be great.

One should be able to group by a specified field, and then sort the groups themselves NOT by that field but by another field. For instance, it is currently not possible to sort data by its name but order it by its date.

Currently, when binding an observable viewModel to a date/time picker control, only date formats built in to the widgets ( a minimal set) and formats specified implicitly by the ParseFormats option.

I understand the reason for this being to prevent users from being able to type a date or time into the widgets in a format other that what is deemed appropriate for the widget, but it should behave differently when being bound from a view model.

Different platforms and web APIs serialize dates in different ways and developers should not have to always write a custom parser into the kendo datasource schema for each datetime property of an object or have to specify the ParseFormat on the widget just so it can be bound properly to a date/time picker widget.

In the latest release (as of this posting) the parsing of Microsoft's JavaScriptSerializer date format has been added, ignoring the ParseFormats of the widgets. This is a great step in the right direction, however the W3C standard ISO 8601 date format is not being parsed while bypassing the ParseFormats of the widgets.

Also, currently, the date parser will not allow parsing of ISO 8601 date strings with more than 3 decimal places for fractions of a second. Both Microsofts DateTime.ToString("O") and Newtonsoft's Json.Net's ISO serialization of dates output 7 decimal places for fractions of a second. (I have been in contact with the kendo team about this specifically and they are going to add support, however they are not currently planning to make it bypass the parseformats unless the community votes for it here on UserVoice).

Since Kendo has specific functions used for binding widgets and elements, they should be able to easily make it so all parseformats (built-in and implicitly specified) are used when parsing dates that are set using binding to widgets expecting an actual date object and not a string (the date/time pickers).

When retrieving data from a remote datasource with a fetchxml via soap that include link entites you get objects that have property names that contain dots like "account.accountid" for example. That doesn't work with Kendo Grid for example. Kendo always tries to go one level deeper if the property name contains a dot. Hence you always have to parse/refactor the results of a retrieve.

The filter row is really nice, but for more flexibility it'd be nice to not hit the server until a user has populated the row with all the filters they want. The way it works now is if you tab out/hit enter/select dropdown list item/etc. it hits the server. The ability to filter when the user explicitly wants to isn't really there.

In order to clearly identify if a datasource operation is successful,
two alternatives are possible:

1. Add success event to the datasource in order to get datasource operations separated from update, destroy, add.

2. Enhance change event by error array.
Currently, the change even is fired even in case of an error. So, at least an error array containing error messages should be available, together with a property "hasErrors".

Currently, an inherited DropDownList widget can only bind to another of the same type or another vanilla DropDownList (via alternativeNames array at kendo.all.js line 32813)

A use case is that I originally created ParentCustomDDL and ChildCustomDDL with the intention of cascading from parent -> child. Since alternativeNames is hard-coded, I was forced to merge the code into one clumsy widget so that name matches name.

Currently if i set filter on my remote data source it fetches the data immediately, so if i want a callback i have to call fetch which will talk to server again.
What be really good is to be able to set sorting/filter and receive a callback when data is retrieved from server.
E.g.
dataSource.fetch({
  filter: {},
  sorting: {}
}) // returns a promise
  .done(function(e){})
  .fail(function(e){});

Hi, I am using the AJAX data source for grid which is great since I don't have to requery for filter, sort, and paging functions. However, if the grid could use this same datasource for the filter autocomplete feature, I would greatly appreciate it because right now the grid is re-hitting the datasource for this.

It'd be terrific if there was built-in access to client-side data stores (e.g. IndexedDb).

With the current hierchical datasource, a simple file system type use case can not be supported... or an email service with nested folders. e.g. a folder might have subfolders OR files... or and email folder might have emails OR subfolders. Its is rare that you would ever know how many nestings there are ahead of time.

If the Node object provided some form of a type field/string/object/function to describe the corresponding model that would be very valuable. the library could instantiate the appropriate type at run time. This would also be useful for templating where a simple switch statement could be used to present templates based on the type. I imagine there would be challenges with the datasource fetch as there could be multiple service endpoints a cross the children of a node based on the number of child types. You might consider solving this by changes children from an array to an array of arrays. And you could populated children with the number o possible types, each type having its own endpoint. Anyway it's a pretty common use case so please forward to product management for roadmap consideration. I'd probably consider that #1 on my list.

As discussed here:
http://www.kendoui.com/forums/framework/mvvm/min-max-bindings-for-datepicker-and-timepicker.aspx

Provide a way to bind the minimum and maximum dates to a model, so that changing the model changes the min and max dates. This would be useful in creating a date range selector where the start date must be prior to the end date.

Please consider creating a node.js middleware for mongoose so we can easily implement server side paging, filtering, etc for data source requests using node.js and mongoose (mongodb). Although mongodb itself is schema-less, mongoose does use schemas and is the most popular choice for working with mongodb and node.js. Currently, there is no other solution (that I am aware of) that offers similar functionality.

The only thing that currently comes close to providing such functionality is JayData which includes support for mongodb only in their pro edition and forces you to use it in place of mongoose and one would need to use oData to make everything work, essentially making it an undesirable solution for most.

As requested in this thread:
http://www.telerik.com/forums/filtering-support-for-pivotgrid-pivotdatasource

I think it would be extremely helpful to offer the same level of filtering on the PivotDataSource for a consistent development experience (especially since PivotDataSource 'inherits' from DataSource:
http://docs.telerik.com/kendo-ui/api/javascript/data/pivotdatasource).

Thanks!

Currently there is now implementation to support Guid data types. There is a workaround to use parameter mapping but this is not working when using custom methods for read\update... methods. I am heavily using web.ai driven odata endpoints and therefore I need custom transport methods and I am not able to filter Guids because auf these limitations.
