Hi,

I'm not sure this will be a bug in your mind but I just wanted to make sure I understood how things work. We have a grid definition which includes the dataSource.schema.model definition. One of the fields (TradeDate) in the schema has a type = "date". In addition, we assign local json data to the "data" property of the dataSource. Our JSON data comes in with dates in the ISO format (a string with the "T" in it). When the grid is initially created everything works fine. We notice that the TradeDate field in the dataSource.data() is converted to an actual javascript date. I assume this is happening because of the schema definition. Later we retrieve new data via an ajax call and apply it to the grid using the grid.dataSource.data(newJson) command. However this does not seem to process the TradeDate field and convert it into a real javascript date. This causes problems because we have filters applied based on the TradeDate. It works fine the first time but fails any time the data is refreshed (because the field value is a string). We tried the schema.parse function but that also is only called the first time. Ultimately we coded the grids "dataBound" event and everything worked. It gets called each time the data is refreshed. I was just wondering if I could be doing something differently so that the schema handled the conversion all the time.

self._grid = grd$.kendoGrid({
columns: [...],
        dataSource: {
schema: {
                        model: {
                            id: "somekey",
                            fields: {
                                NewTradeFlag: { editable: false },
                                TradeDate: { editable: false, type: "date" },
...
                            }
                        }
                    },
                data: self.ViewModel.DisplayData.TransactionData
         }
...
})

Later on we do this

self._grid.dataSource.data(newJsonData);

P.S. we originally were using MVVM binding straight to the ViewModel but that didn't work either.

Thank you in advance, Jim.

Bug report

An error occurs on components' initialization when using a custom Kendo UI build which includes PDFviewer

Reproduction of the problem

  1. Go to Kendo UI Custom Download page
  2. In the "WEB" section select random components including the Grid and PDFviewer
  3. Download the custom build(kendo.custom.min.js file) and put it in the same folder with an HTML file with the following structure.
<!DOCTYPE html>

Dear Telerik,

Please check this example. The single difference than the original one from the demos section, is that I deleted the tasksDataSource.schema.model.fields.parentId.defaultValue". Now the default value of the parentId will be 0 instead of null. If you try to add a new task, the logic will break because of inifinity loop caused by the new task with id=0 and parent=the same task(parentId=0).

I checked the documentation at https://docs.telerik.com/kendo-ui/api/javascript/data/ganttdatasource/configuration/schema and this obligation is missing. It is something small that can save an hour to someone else.

Best Regards, Boyan.

In the Wizard to create or update an MVC project, and possibly other wizards, please add support for choosing which cultures that you want to include.

This could be done by adding checkboxes in a tree where you could at first level choose language and then expand and choose country/region, since the files follow the format:

<language code>-<country/region code>.

Most people probably only use English and/or their native language, so please make this a choice in the wizard.

As an example. In one of the latest versions of the framework, the folders for cultures and messages contain 1786 files in total. Out of those we only need 2, the ones for our native language.

Slowly installing and then manually deleting 1784 files in Visual Studio for every time you run the MVC wizards, is a complete waste of time for such a common scenario where you know whihc languages that the app should support.

1. Navigate to: https://dojo.telerik.com/@milena/uZaGuZol (open the dojo sample in edit mode, but not in FullScreen)

2. Scroll Grid to the last item.

3. Open for editing ProductName cell.

4. Open for editing Discontinued cell.

Result: 'Discontinued' cell of the second item will be opened for editing.

Expected: 'Discontinued' cell of the last item should be opened for editing.

We want to copy & paste cell velue/text from kendo grid. But we are not able to select the cell text itself for copy. I think once we are able to select the cell text, we can copy than.

When a ContextMenu is opened for the first time, the animation is not executed. Every consequent open trigger the animation successfully.

The issue can be observed in the following Dojo.

Steps to reproduce:

  • Open the ContextMenu and notice there is no animation.
  • Open the ContextMenu again and notice the default animation is triggered.

Look at the emerging WASM projects such as Blazor or Ooui. The obvious path seems to be to have a strong HTML based suite, i.e Kendo, ported to Blazor. However another option would be to improve the Xamarin forms components to have comparable functionality to their desktop counterpartys so they can be used in LOB applications under Ooui. The current Xamarin components are too mobile centric. A third option, which admittedly seems like a bit of a long shot at present, would be to take Moonlight, strip out the plugin stuff, strip out all but the layout code, and redo that to write to an HTML Canvas. Now that's probably outside your scope although in my opinion its the most attractive of the 3 options. In summary I suggest you look at providing a full featured UI component suite that runs under wasm.

Support has no doubt provided help to hundreds of people with thousands of issues but these problems and solutions are not available to search. Ideally it would be possible to make the basic problem and solution available in a FAQ, cleansed of private information, so that it could be searched by people before contacting support.

It would take some time to setup but it would make it easier to self-solve issues in many cases.

I am trying to use the DropDownList and find this level of documentation:

 <div class="demo-section k-content">
    <h4>Products</h4>
    @(Html.Kendo().DropDownList()
          .Name("products")
          .DataTextField("ProductName")
          .DataValueField("ProductID")
          .DataSource(source => {
              source.Read(read =>
              {
                  read.Action("GetProducts", "Home");
              });
          })
          .HtmlAttributes(new { style = "width: 100%" })
    )
</div>

The only other source file is a simple Controller Action method to return a result. There is no indication of what type of data is to be returned by the read.Action("GetProducts", "Home");

What fields are required in the data?
What field or fields are passed back to the Controller on Submit?
Is it JSON?
Is it in a wrapper like the Grid uses?

It is issues like this that make ALL the Telerik products difficult to use, and makes me consider using other tools. I think it lowers the value of the tools when Telerik appear to be happy that documentation of this level exists and users have to find answers and working real life examples on sites such as StackOverflow.

We need the ability to modify the title of the new predefined dialog control. This control is a great replacement for JavaScript alerts and confirms. However, we should be able to modify the title by passing in an additional parameter when using the control.

Below is a workaround using CSS:

    <style>
        .k-confirm .k-window-titlebar::before,
        .k-alert .k-window-titlebar::before {
            content: 'My New Title';
            font-weight: bold;
        }
        .k-confirm .k-window-titlebar .k-dialog-title {
            visibility: collapse;
        }
        .k-dialog .k-window-titlebar .k-dialog-title {
            visibility: hidden;
        }
    </style>

Create a sample Export to PDF for multiple grids. You have sample code for multiple Grids to Excel, but not PDF. You have a nice sample of exporting two kendo charts and a grid, but I need to export a DIV with some panels/etc, then also about 4 grids. Similar to your example, but not sure about the jquery/Draw/Progress/Deferred code. Thanks
