In RadGrid, we can use the ClientSettings.Scrolling.UseStaticHeaders property to have a fixed header when scrolling the grid. This requires a fixed height of the grid. However, what if we do not want a fixed height of the grid, but rather want the grid to flow down the page, using as much space as necessary do display its records. In such a scenario, the grid header will disappear when we scroll down the page.
I have implemented a kind of fix for this in one of my projects. Instead of trying to explain how it works, I have prepared an example. You can find it here:
http://www.ifag.no/RadGridHeader.aspx
Maybe some of you can suggest even better solutions to the scenario I have described. Comments are welcome!

Hello,

I have Radgrid with editable & non editable columns. I edit a row.

If I click an editable cell, it places the cursor within the editable cell. Its correct.

But if I click a readonly cell, it places the cursor in the first editable cell of the line. If the readonly cell is the last cell of the line and if I click the readonly cell, it places the cursor in the first editable cell. If the grid column width is very large, the grid is scrolled to show the first editable cell, and I loose the data which I am visualizing.

If I click in readonly cell, I want to open all the editable cells of the line, but the page should remain in same place. I don't want to place the cursor in any of the editable cells of the line.

Example grid:
I have a simple Radgrid with batch mode and edit type row.
I have 3 columns id,name and age.
Id and name columns are editable columns. Age column is non editable column.
If I click on age column which is non editable , the focus moves to id column, which is the first editable column.
If there many columns in my grid and if I click the last non editable column, the grid scrolls to first editable column, and I lose the focus of data which I am seeing.
If I click in non editable column, I want the grid to remain in same place.

This feature can be added as an option by adding property of grid ForceFocusinEdit.
When ForceFocusinEdit= true, if we click in readonly column, focus moves to first editable column.
When ForceFocusinEdit = false, if we click in readonly column, focus is in clicked cell.

Please refer to Ticket ID: 1168296 for more informations.
Thank you

Create a FilterControlEmptyMessage property so users can set an empty message in the grid filter textbox, much like the EmptyMessag property of RadTextBoxes.

Ideally make it so this property can be accessed/modified client and server-side.

The behavior described in the following KB should be fixed https://www.telerik.com/support/kb/aspnet-ajax/grid/details/horizontal-scroll-speed-is-slow-with-static-headers

In the meantime, you can use the workarounds from the article, or, if it fits your scenario, move to scrolling horizontally through frozen columns via the Prev/Next buttons the grid can provide. You can find an example of that in the second grid (Navigate through the columns by clicking on the Prev/Next buttons) in the following demo: https://demos.telerik.com/aspnet-ajax/grid/examples/columns-rows/columns/frozen-columns/defaultcs.aspx

Please provide the ability to customize the way filtering works when RenderMode=Mobile.

Allows for template filtering, and ColumnHeader filtering similar to Lightweight rendering.

We have a RadGrid, which has a set of columns, lets say C1 to CN.
Some of those columns are invisible and can be made visible with the Columns context menu, your control provides.
Assume a column Ci, that is not visible now.

If there exists a visible column Cx with x > i, your control works as expected. The column spans of the headline are ok.
See GoodCase_Step.jpg

If there is no visible column Cx with x > i and Ci is switched visible, your column spans within the headline become completely invalid.
See BadCase.jpg_Step.jpg

We use Version 2017.3.913.45 of your library.

Thanks for your Support!

Dear developers

I would like to see an easy way to have straight forward navigation / edit / save operations in radgrid the way it works for MS Access grids. When working in MS Access grid the record automatically gets dirty on edit, has an easy cancel by ESC button, and auto-saves without any trouble when moving to the next record. The way it works in MS Access is until 2018 still hard to find in a web-control. I managed to use the batch edit and have a kind of auto save when moving to the next record. but it is a pain because the postback action results in loosing the focus on the field you navigated to.

Why is it so hard to built what the MS boys (the old guys did great work) already built ages ago. Its about time that our web controls behave like old fashioned windows fat client controls.

Please don't lean behind, thinking that all is fine now. its not, a lot can be improved and made easier to handle and give user better user experience.

When I look at the current NEW / UPDATES for ASP.NET Ajax Controls it make me cry to see that its apparently put aside as FINISHED. Wake up, improve more or give a clear roadmap for future developments. Progress should not loose focus on the Telerik ASP.NET Ajax toolbox because that one is still a major tool for the coming 5-10 years I expect.

How is it possible to autofit / autosize a giving column (or all columns) when exporting the contents from RadGrid to xlsx using ExportStructure?

The only option available is Width with a defined value. I was unable to find an autofit / autosize function.

And also add AutoFilter feature...

Please consider to add this features :-)

I have a RadGrid with around 150 columns and a few hundred rows. Currently, I'm looping over them and setting their widths with the resizeColumn function. Unfortunately, it's triggering a recalculation of the layout every time I call this function, so the total page load time can be in the minutes.

Oddly, much of the time was spent on the line:
e.style.width=e.offsetWidth-d+"px";

Chrome's developer tools helpfully pointed me at Forced Reflow. Apparently, when a width is set, initially no extra work is done. When another width is requested, the previous width may have changed it, so the whole layout gets recalculated.

The feature I'd like to request is a function to set column widths in bulk (accepting anything like an array or a dictionary would be fine) that doesn't trigger this recalculation mid-function.

At the moment, RTL support for excel like filtering is not implemented. It displays the following issues

    - menu position is wrong (tends to show up on the column to the left)
    - controls alignment inside the menu is wrong (ltr)

You can find attached a sample and screenshots with the current behavior

The date pickers default to the year 1999 and do not accept inputs, so you cannot filter GridDateTimeColumn instances through the header context menu or the excel-like filtering. The standard filter item and range filter can still be used instead of context menus, but they are not available with excel-like filtering.

As shown in the attached screen, please keep the column headers Fixed or Visible so they are still visible when users scroll down to see the other data, for both RadGrid and PivotGrid:

It would be useful for the header cell for Sort-able columns to display an indication that the column can be sorted. This is useful to users when not all columns are sort-able, so they know which header cells will trigger resorting.

Elsewhere in our application, we use a double headed arrow icon to indicate use can click on header to resort on the column; the app displays the up or down arrow indicating when sort order is active.

Suggest adding a third Sort-Image-URL attribute to specify an image to use when column is not sorted ascending or descending.

At present, best I can do declaratively (w/o custom coding) is the set one of the HeaderStyle-Font properties (for example the HeaderStyle-Font-Underline) to provide a visual indication that column is sort-able.

In some cases, inside the Grid table, the tfoot element is rendered before the tbody element. This causes some readers to read the footer before the body.

A possible workaround is moving the tfoot after the tbody in the OnGridCreated event:

function OnGridCreated(sender, args) {
    var $ = $telerik.$;
    $('tfoot').each(function (index, item) {
        debugger
        var $item = $(item);
        var $next = $item.next();
        if ($next[0]) {
            if ($next[0].tagName.toLowerCase() == "tbody") {
                debugger
                $item.insertAfter($next);
            }
        }
    });
}

I think it would be a great addition to the grid control if there was an attribute that you could apply to the columns called "SortNullsLast" or something along those lines. This attribute would modify the grid's sorting functionality and only apply the ascending or descending sort to non-null values.

Currently when you sort ascending, null values are sorted to the top of the grid. This new attribute would allow the non-null values to show up at the top in ascending order.

An example of why this would be useful is having a grid that tracks an optional requested completion date of a task. You would want to be able to sort the grid so that the earliest date shows first in the grid. Right now, any records that don't have this optional date would show first, which doesn't make sense.

Auto-Fit column width when exporting to excel using Format="Xlsx"

 I'd really like to have the columns automatically adjust to fit the width of the content.

A workaround is to take the header border color and set it to all rows

- Default skin
           .RadGrid_Default .rgRow > td,
            .RadGrid_Default .rgAltRow > td {
                border-left-color: rgb(130, 130, 130);
            }

- BlackMetroTouch skin

            .RadGrid_BlackMetroTouch .rgRow > td,
            .RadGrid_BlackMetroTouch .rgAltRow > td {
                border-left-color: rgb(51, 51, 51);
            }

            .RadGrid_BlackMetroTouch .rgRow > td,
            .RadGrid_BlackMetroTouch .rgAltRow > td {
                border-bottom-width: 0px; /*remove extra space between rows that becomes visible when you put on borders for alt rows*/
            }

- WebBlue skin

            .RadGrid_WebBlue .rgRow > td,
            .RadGrid_WebBlue .rgAltRow > td
            {
                border-left-color: rgb(69, 95, 119);
            }

Provide a simple interface to showcase exactly in what order the columns have been sorted in (ex. 1, 2, 3, etc in column header) - matching the functionality in Kendo UI Grid:

I would like to suggest that the Buttons in the RadGrid allow databinding to the CommandName and CommandArgument fields. And pretty much all the buttons or anything that triggers an ItemCommand event that allow a CommandName and CommandArgument have their properties to be databound and accessible in the code behind.

Thanks!!!

For Bug Report :

Note: We are using MM/dd/yyyy as Internal Date format to prevent issue while inserting or updating value.

Steps to reproduce:
When we use dd-MM-yyyy and yyyy-dd-MM Date DisplayFformat for RadDatePicker/RadDateTimePicker control as well as view mode in Radgrid Batch Edit mode it's render behaviour is inconsistent
1. When dd is less than or equal to 12 then while rendering in edit mode Month and Date is interchanged
2. When dd is greather than 12 then while rendering in edit mode Month and Date is rendered correctly.
