Better support for form type reports
For our Customers a major drawback to creating form type reports (Invoices, Purchase Orders etc.) using Telerik Reporting is the inability to show vertical dividing lines between data columns in the 'Detail' section of the report that extend all the way down the page to the Page/Report footer. We were able to do this with Crystal Reports. But we plan to migrate all our Crystal reports to Telerik.

Hi all,

Just wanted to let you know that in R1 2021 we introduced two new features that will make the creation of form type reports easier:

- BackgroundOverlay is a new type of Watermark that positions itself as a bottommost layer on the designed report. Its purpose is to provide visual aid for placing report items on top of an existing document that must be reproduced in a report.
- Cross-section item is a new item that allows to draw vertical line or rectangle across one or more report sections. The item dynamically calculates its height based on the size of the report sections it spans on. It is also supported in multi-page and multi-column scenarios.

We want to thank you for the feedback provided in this thread that helped us to develop the item the way our users want it. We will be happy if you give it a try and share your thoughts.

All best,
Ivan Hristov

Hello Joshua,

Thanks for your input.

Configuring whether the table will have its footer printed at the bottom of the last occupied page is one of the things we will address along with the cross-section lines and background overlay image. We plan to include a few more features that will help facilitate the creation of form-type and pre-printed reports.

All best,

Ivan Hristov

Although it may be too late to include this in the next release I'd like to request the ability of table footers to be printed at the bottom of the page in the event they are followed by a table group page break.

Thank you.

Hello all,

This feature is in our priority list for implementation and is included in our roadmap for R3 2020. We're aware that the support for better form reports is a highly anticipated feature and has lots of votes in our feedback portal. Although we really hope we'll be able to develop it in time for R3, I would like to remind you that we're working in a dynamic environment and the roadmap is s subject of change. Still, I want to assure you that we'll do our best to deliver  it in one of our subsequent product releases.

All best,

Ivan Hristov

Are there some news? It's a shame to have to wait 5 years for such a basic needs.

Me too, like Pedro Alexander, no longer use Telerik Reporting just because of the lack of this functionality. And there is more: recently I had to recommend another competitor product to a colleague of mine for the same reason. Waiting for two years for a feature that virtually all other reporting programs has seems a little bit excessive to me :(

Just for this functionality that does not exist in your tool forces me to use Crystal Report, I have been waiting since 2017, I hope it will be implemented soon

Hello Christian,

Currently, most of our resources are engaged in the development of the Web Report Designer. Unfortunately, we have to postpone this feature implementation. All users that have voted for the feature request will be notified when its status gets updated.

Hi Muhammad,

As we schedule for implementation most demanded features, we have put more resources to the .NET Core support feature for the R1 2019 release. For this reason we had to postpone this feature request.

Once the implementation of this feature starts, the status would be changed to "In Development" and all of you would be notified via e-mail.
Thank you for your patience.

Silviya

Hi all.
This feature request implementation is planned for the 2019 R1 release, due in Mid-January 2019.
As a side not, changing the status of a request to Approved means it aligns with the product vision and purpose. It does not give a time frame when it will get implemented.

Although this idea is marked as "approved", I did not see it listed in the product roadmap on offial site.
Can someone from Telerik's staff tell us when it's planned for released, please?
Thank you.

I'm using your control since 2014 in my application. Users are complaining about the very disturbing absence of this functionality from day 1. Even more annoying is the fact that there are no real good work arounds to fix this for my clients.
I'm waiting for nearly four years now and still you haven't implemented this so much needed functionality. Do you have your priorities set up right or what?
FIX THIS ASAP. Users of your control are waiting long enough now.

Milen, can you post a demo project to show how to add vertical lines until this features is properly (and finally, after more than 2 years!) implemented, please?

Thank you.

Until not implemented, you can try to overlap items so that you achieve the desired effect. The actual data-bound table can be placed over the long vertical lines or a static table with borders. The limitation here is that Excel rendering, for example, does not support overlapped items.

The feature can be generalized as better support for form type reports, meaning the ability to add items (like the vertical lines) on the page that do not interfere with the data-bound tables and sections, etc. Hence I will change the title so that we can track the interest properly.
