Why does Test Studio have to be run as Administrator?
In Windows 10, Microsoft blocks users from opening programs that show that administrator permissions are needed to run the program.

Why is Test Studio configured this way instead of just as an executable program? I read other posts referencing saving log files and such, but can't the security permissions on the machine itself dictate where files can be saved instead of TS making that distinction out of the gate?

It means I cannot open the program in Windows 10, much less create any tests. And our IT department is not going to grant admin access on the individual user machines.

Hello Ingrid,

I am sorry to hear about the troubles with the admin access you are experiencing. Please note this behavior of blocking users from working with programs that require administration permission is not in Windows 10, this is a setting that is configurable.

On your question about Test Studio we need administrator access because of the following:

- Writing into the registry
- Injecting in IE (recording)
- Recording WPF
- Calibrating browsers
- Dialog handling

We require users with admin rights as this is Windows limitation and Test Studio cannot work properly. You can try running Test Studio with non-admin user, however we cannot guarantee the proper functioning.

Should you have any additional questions or comments, please feel free to submit a ticket.

Thank you for your understanding.

Regards,
Ivaylo
